    Hey guys,

I am looking for suggestions on how to resolve an issue with my neighbor.

About every other week, my next door neighbor has an outdoor party at his house. Most of the time, the parties start at 8pm and go until 1-3am. But, sometimes, they will go all day. Our houses are about 12 feet apart and are separated by a wooden fence. The windows to our master bedroom face their house and we can clearly hear everything that is going on next door and it makes it impossible to sleep. On 4 occasions, either myself or my wife have gone next door to ask them to keep the noise down, or take the party inside the house, or end the parties earlier. They always say they are sorry, but nothing changes. Last night, they had a very large party. They erected a structure in their driveway and placed a very large cooker or bbq under it. They had upwards of 30-40 people there and 15-20 cars packed into the end of the cul-de-sac where we live. These cars were blocking our driveway and the drive ways of our other neighbors. Most of the people there were drinking and, as the night went on, they were getting louder and louder. There were also some of their kids there who were playing with the toys of the other kids in the neighbor hood. They were also throwing basketballs at the cars of our other neighbors (thankfully, I can park inside the garage).

So, my wife and I called the sheriff. However, I live in a part of pflugerville, tx that is an unincorporated municipal utility district. This means that many of the laws and ordinances of pflugerville (and the surrounding cities) do not apply to where we live. So the sheriff talked to the owner next door and I assume he asked him to reduce the level of the party and to not block the cul-de-sac. However, nothing changed and it turns out that the sheriff could not enforce any noise ordinance or gathering ordinance because such an ordinance does not exist where we live. So, essentially, we are at the mercy of our neighbor's whims. He is allowed to throw these parties any time he wants and we have no recourse. If there is an emergency, we can call 911 and get aresponse, but a loud party does not constitute an emergency.

Part of me wants to take some sort of passive-aggressive action (loud air horns or high pitched sirens so they cannot enjoy themselves), but I know this would become a pissing match and the situation would get escalated. I have tried talking to them directly and I have tried involving law enforcement, but we are at a loss as to what to do. There is an HOA here, but they clearly do not enforce other HOA rules as seen by the poor upkeep of the property of many residents here. In any case, we will try to go through the HOA, but my hopes are not high.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks,

in the state of Georgia everywhere it is illegal for you to block someones driveway, idk if your state has that law, but you might could get those blocking driveways towed at least.

Make war. You tried to be civil. Your turn to get annoying while they're sleeping. Block their drive way.

You already know that noise cannot be stopped by the cops. Rig up a few train horns to a massive ass air compressor and start it non stop come 10 PM for weeknight parties and 12 PM for weekend parties. It is a pissing match, but that kind of insanely loud and painful sound will make his parties much less fun. He may refuse to take it inside, but the guests will not be having as much fun and may disperse on their own.

Just make sure you have ear protection for everyone in your own home.

The goal is to at least get the neighbor to negotiate and agree to reasonable hours of noise. So hopefully after ruining a party or two the problem sorts itself out.

    Good luck.

also, set up cameras near the horns... then if he damages them, you can sue or bring forth vandalism charges

You just opened a can of worms. Regardless of your reasoning, you called the cops on them. This will not end well. You have kids being kids for one. And that's on the parents, NOT your neighbor. I'd make a point of not allowing someone to block your driveway, pretty sure that is illegal. Be prepared for a shit storm, that's all you can do.

    haha.

The light at the end of tunnel is that we are renting and, eventually, we will move out. However, our lease doesn't end until may of 2015.

Sucks when you have bad neighbors. You can try making more noise than him but that escalates pretty quickly. My preference is area denial weaponry - ie gas attack.

Get some fans and make some non lethal stink bombs http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Stink-Bomb

It's not nice, but it sends a message and maybe you can some to some sort of compromise. Good luck!

I would look into getting out of your lease and moving. Anything that you do as far as tit for tat will just escalate the issue and as you are not the home owner, you have even less options with the HOA. It sux that the cops just wash their hands of it, but they still should of cited the a-holes that blocked everyones driveways. Here you have to be the home owner to get the city to tow or ticket someone who blocks your driveway.
Some things you just can't fix...

    Dang, that sucks, OP.
There are lots of advice here to get even, but honestly, that never works out.
I know some people are just a-holes and it does not help to try and communicate with them, but I would recommend you try to talk to them again and in a nice, polite way explain to them that the only other way is to get in a pissing match trying to ruin his parties. Explain that you do not want that, but respectfully ask that they quit at reasonable hour. I know it is a stretch and they have already shown that they are not likely to respond to that, but it is for sure better than a pissing contest with air horns (as fun as that may sound).

The only other option is to join the party and eat as much free bbq as you can..:notsure:

If you do go the train horn route don't forget about mornings. Chances are the neighbors would really REALLY not like that thing going off in the middle of their hangover.

im not sure about how it is in your town. but mine at least like its huge fuck you to park infront of someones house and we had a similiar situation. so we just parked our extra car infront of their house for a couple days at a time. or we run the lawn mowers in like dirt and kick it all up and blows in their yard. but i would go for some passive aggressive stuff or talk to the other neighbors for ideas.

Exactly. Start looking to move now, and use this as a reason to break your lease. HOA's are useless. Good luck.

Next! from the reviews, this product sounds like junk and a waste of money. I have my own issues from time with neighbors behind me and could really use a product like this.

After they go to sleep at 5 AM or whatever time, place a radio pointed towards there house turned up full blast. Then leave for the day and go do what you do. This may sound childish, but your inconsiderate neighbors may get the hint.
    Good luck.
