The composite/plastic beds on these trucks are ridiculous. Loaded a fridge this morning and tore up that plastic tailgate cap and put a crease in the exterior sheet metal.

Looks like I'll be getting that relentless fab reinforcement piece.

What is the weight limit on these tailgates anyone know? Seems ridiculous to me that they would design these not to support some daily use.

Thanks for the info. I thought we where past this issue. I will most definitely be getting Relentless tailgate plate.

I cant say, but I never had my bend or decrease, and I had a 500lb set of rollers droped on my tailgate. That being said, the weight was distributed over a larger area, and the tailgate creaked from then on.

I think it all depends how the weight is distributed on the tailgate. Spread out is better than centered.

OP, I have the aluminum relentless plate. The steel will be stronger but I didn't want the rust. Thought I would throw that in there for you.

I load 4 wheelers in the bed of mine frequently, but I use aluminum ramps to load them. I know it's a mid size truck, but Toyota needs to quit cutting corners.

So based on what I am reading here if a person steps on these tailgates to get in the bed it could bend? Seems pretty ridiculous! Has anyone presented this to Toyota and what was their response?

its not that drastic. Look up bent Tacoma tailgate on google and you will see what I mean. I am 225 and jump on and off my tailgate and have had no problem.

    https://www.google.ca/search?q=taco...a=X&ei=FwEWVMm5O5WdygTnuoCwCw&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ

all the bends were kinda due to a load in the center.

I do believe people have had their gates replaced possibly under warrantee, but I cant say for sure. I am not saying this isn't an issue, but based on my experiences I cant say the tailgates are bending left right and center.

This is what's under your plastic cover. How strong does this look and how long will it last?

These are questions I had to ask myself before I bought a reinforcement. I load my motorcycle multiple times a month on the way to the track and after seeing my fair share of bent tailgates, I decided I didn't want to take a chance.

So from what I can see in your pic it doesn't wrap around the top edge right ? Because the pic on there web page the demand plate aluminum one dos. I like that your stops right at the edge of the tail gate protector. I also like that your is the smooth and not the demand plate. Did you Order yours special or do they offer it that way? The info on the web page is not clear .

It does have the wrap around it's just painted black. That's pretty much were the strength comes from. If not it would be just a flat flimsy piece of material. I went with the smooth so I could slide things into the truck. Mine is just the standard plate that is aluminum.

It's not that terrible. I'm 240lbs on a good day and it doesn't bend with just me on it. However, when I'm loading stuff heavier than me, it'll bow slightly and that slight bow is enough to push those support arm things into the tailgates exterior skin and you will see a crease. My real beef is the plastic cap and how easily it can get destroyed. I've had a 5.8L V8 resting on the tailgate and it had a noticeable bow.

The tailgates were supposedly reinforced on the 08 and up models but they still feel pretty light duty

Sweet! Thanks for the code. Just ordered an aluminum tailgate reinforcement. Can't wait to get it on my rig.
