Not sure it helps but I mounted mine flat in the bed. If I have to haul anything, it is usually across town or something nearby so I just take the spare out. I figure if I get a flat, I'll call a buddy. I haven't had to figure out what to do if I need to haul something long distance yet.

I put a brush guard on my 01 Taco today. I had previously (Last week) plasti-dipped the stock silver grill black so I think it looks good now. I also dipped my door handles which were looking kinda nasty. I used some fine steel wool and buffed out the trim around the wheel wells back to black instead of the whiteish coating they'd gotten over time.

And my plasti-dip job before the brush guard was installed:

I also took off my old mud flaps which were all dirty and rusty with faded/scratched 4WD stickers on them off. I broke some bolts because of how rusty everything got but I ordered new ones. I cleaned and buffed the flaps, painted them a nice flat black and I've got some reflective new 4WD stickers coming in the mail tomorrow so it should all look good once it's back to it's original glory.

Boost!! That thing is pretty hefty, might not even have to rebuild it.

All I know is along the drive I never really noticed how much power the 5vz has, these Chevys and dodges couldn't pass me up

Complete OME kit w/ 881's and dakars. All-Pro Sliders, CB, HAM Radio and various other minor stuff.
$150 isn't too bad as it does solve my problem. Something to think about.

Eventually, I'm building a bracket that sandwiches the spare between two gas cans.

If I ever get around to an overnight offroad adventure, I'm figuring on just a regular tent and such. I'm a minimalist compared to some of the expedition rigs on here.

That seems like a long cable run. What gauge would you use? 00/00?

I've considered the columbia overland kit but would prefer to use yellow tops..

I'm down John I want to hit up prairie ASAP!

No it's a relentless DIY but the corners have been heavily modified, my friend put it together and I helped him with it!

Sick, came out nice. I'm tempted to get the diy kit... Was it tough? I haven't done any welding yet but intend to learn, just need to wire my 220 outlet. Were the frame connections already drilled and cut?

Yes the center section comes pre welded so you just bolt it up and mock it up from there.

Be prepared for a lot of grinding.

Over the weekend I finished up my Blue Seas fuse block / relays / switch install. Also did the writeup that a couple of people had asked for.

i put mine under the bed. used 00ga wire to set it up. i have a spacer so when you mount the tire back up the rubber just touches the battery.
