After reading the article I say GOOD! That is a dangerous prank to play, and someone could have gotten seriously injured or killed. Not to mention that someone ELSE who may have actually been in REAL need of a swat team could have been receiving delayed response.

 

Kids these days are crazy. What ever happened to writing "Sean likes boys" on a bathroom stall?

15 year olds would not get sentenced to this extreme, and this is not a Federal case as local SWAT teams would be used. Although, any IDIOT that calls in a SWATTING prank deserves MAX time allowed! Instead of 25 years in prison, take away all videogames....forever!!

There's a video of a guy that Live Stream while playing video games, and a SWAT team went into his room and put him on the ground while he was streaming... Haha

You can go too far with a prank, and this is one of those times...

Swatting is becoming pretty common in my area, have heard many stories from my LEO friends. Actually responded (fire department) to what turned out to be a swatting call. Sheriff's office got a call from a Skype number claiming to be this 16 year old kid who said he just shot his mom in the chest with an AR-15. We staged for about 45 minutes while the deputies tried to figure out what was going down.

Turned out the mom and her son were just hanging out inside their house and had no idea there were about five deputies outside proned out in their front yard with AR's pointing at them...

SWAT team was actually never called, just pre-alerted, but dispatch couldn't trace the number back since it was a Skype number.

It is certainly a situation that can go badly, and is a huge waste of law enforcement and fire department resources. Not sure if 25-life matches up to the crime though...

While 25-life seems like a lot, I agree with what Scottalot said. Make this example and hopefully it'll cut down on these dumb pranks.

 

Yeah because deterrence sentencing guidelines and mandatory sentencing works for so many other crimes...

Drug / gun / shootings / etc I would agree with, but the majority (probably all) of people doing these swat pranks are teens. They see someone getting 25 to life they will stop, lol, if not - they know the consequences.

This shit isn't a prank someone could easily get killed. When SWAT is coming into a house they don't use toy guns and there have been people who shot at police when they come into the wrong house.

 

That is 1 thing that bothers the hell out of me. In the vid I posted, they don't say they are police until the kid is already on the ground, and the cop grabs the kid's phone and starts going through it which is a violation of the 4th amendment.

 

No knock entries are fucking retarded. Sadly the only way it will stop is when police are killed.

I cant even remotely understand the logic. Is it worth it risking every ones lives so they can't flush some drugs? I guess thats what happens when you declare war on a object.

Terrorism is considered a Federal offence. The federal system does not have the same guidelines when dealing with age and the maximum term that can be sentenced wih age. He will have to serve at least 18 years before he can get out.

 

And just how do you propose handling a armed suspect inside a house?
