I'm going to go out on a limb here but if the cops are going into a drug house I'm sure they won't just have those drugs as the only evidence...

No knocks were just used in rare circumstances with 5,000 in 1981 but now there are 50,000 a year. But hey lets keep letting cops and innocent civilians when they raid the wrong house (which happens all the fucking time) get killed to stop them from flushing a bit of drugs.

If this were real, and a federal charge of 25-life was imposed, he would do at least 25 years. Not 18 years.

2 things, you have gave the ole' "they are just drugs rebuttal. This was not about drugs, the scenario was the "swatting" prank. Armed suspect inside of a house.

Also, drugs dealers typically have guns or other weapons close by at all times to protect their product from other drug dealers. When you choose to break the law the police will handle the situation as fit. It does not matter if you are slinging dime bags of grass to pay for your grandma's hip replacement or a mass murderer, an armed suspect inside of a house is the same across the board, no matter what crime has been allegedly committed.

I don't think the punishment is equal to the crime. He's a dumb ass, absolutely. A BIG dumb ass kid. But putting him in prison until he turns 40 doesn't seem right.

Yea I get that.....but how did they obtain the residence of their "online rivals" from their IP address...when they would need a court order in order to get that information...wouldn't be able to give police a residence just by their IP address

They do use no knock warrants for drugs all the time. There are plenty of cases where small time pot dealers have their door busted down for a few oz of pot. A fuck load of time they even go into the wrong house and an innocent ends up dead. Or they don't know its police until they could be dead. Look at the video linked they didnt even tell them they were police until he was on the ground. I would be shooting at them assuming they were home invaders. Theres another video of a streamer being home invaded and it looked and sounded the exact same minus the badges.

They managed to get by with only 5000 in the 1980s so why has it jumped up so much now? If they are busting a cartel go for it. Some dude dealing pot out of his apartment doesn't require that.

Step 1: "False" phone call coming from Gamer A placed about a shooting at Gamer B's Address.
Step 2: After swat arrives and verifies that the complaint was fake, investigators obtain a warrant from the judge to locate Gamer A via online investigation. Basis for warrant? Illegal phone call claiming Gamer B was killing/shooting/blowing up whatever.
Step 3: investigators use warrant to have their phone records of the incoming call traced and the person who placed the call identified.
Step 4: after Gamer A is identified, investigators return to judge for arrest warrant.

    Pretty simple really.

I would be surprised if the person who did it used their normal phone. Someone smart would use TOR and skype to be anonymous.

Yeah, I see what you are saying but if he does get 25 years at least, he will have to serve a minimum of 3/4 of his sentence.

I'm still lost, how do you figure 3/4 of his sentence? Federal time has no parole. You get 10 years, you serve 10 years. You get 20 years, you serve 20 years. It is when you get a sentence of 25-life that you become eligible for lifetime parole after the minimum 25 years has been served.

Its funny you said someone smart..... someone smart wouldn't have done the prank in the first place.

From what I read the person he pranked dad was shot by the police when they came in. Now that may be false but if so he deserves every bit of what he got. And if it's not true oh well he deserves every bit of it because eventually someone innocent is going to get shot and killed by this.

State sentence requires 1/2 of sentence to be served in prison. Remaining time is usualy allocated between probation and conditional release sentences. It all depends in the crime and behavior of inmate while in prison. Good behavior is more difficult to be obtained in the state system

Federal requires 3/4 of sentence to be served in prison. As most federal crimes being
"non-violent", except for the ocasional murder of an elected official, an inmate is required to serve the majority of their sentence in prison. Good behavior and blah blah also helps, so on and so on.

Looks to me like they have the minimum years served mixed up.......but that's our government for you.

Even TOR can be tracked if you piss off the right people. Skype is very easy to track people down unless you are pushing your IP through tons of proxy servers around the world. Which then would slow the connection down so bad that Skype wouldn't really work all that well.
