I like this a lot. I do have one concern though - road salt! I worry about salt getting under the wide lip and being a royal pain to get it out.

 

Use a hose

 

Why not just make it fit OVER the stock plastic cap ? Would eliminate the gasket and tape (for paint protection) and possibly sit higher matching the side bed caps.

Good thought, but it wouldn't be able to fit nice and flush inside the tailgate if it went over the factory cap.

 

Salt would never get in between the two pieces of gasket, and anything under the out lip would easily wash out.

I worry more about salt getting under the factory side rail caps.

 

These things are definitely a pain to package. Lol

 

Just got my USPS tracking number...yep, my mail delivery person is gonna hate me...I'll have to be standing waiting with a cracked beer for him!

 

There are 5 left from the first batch. Next batch goes to powder coat tomorrow night. They should be ready in a couple days.

 

I assume mine is one of those 5 ...

Darkness comes early these days and don't have a garage.

 

Just finished installing! Went on beautifully...with just one user error I slide the cap straight down, which appeared to push on the gasket a bit too much. Second try I "curled" it on from the front side. Popped right on, no hammer required!





Also, the sheet metal must be a tad bit thicker than the plastic cap (I didn't measure) - it was a close call with the bracket for the tonneaou cover:

I figure it's easier to take a little extra time packing, than to deal with people returning damaged goods.
