I would assume they taper off before the event. Anyone who takes their sport serious would. Runners will hit their "peak" mileage about 1.5 weeks out then taper off before a race.
Pro obstacle course racers taper a week out. reduce running distance and cut WOD's in half or whatever it is they do.

    NOT YET
I jut joined a local gym last weekend. I finished my cancer treatments little over a month ago. I have been going to yoga at the cancer hospital twice a week for a few months now. After radiation I had to stop because of some radiation burns. I started back at yoga last week. I am not sure where to begin at the gym. I would like to keep my yoga days on Thursdays and Saturdays. The yoga class has doubled as a support group because everyone is a cancer survivor.

Where does a fat guy who never spent much time in a gym start?

My goals are to loose some weight and regain some stamina. I would love to eventually loose this spare tire.

Congratulations on your battle. If I were just starting out, I'd recommend doing full body workouts with the weight training machines, just to get all your muscles acclimated. Full body workouts are great.

It's funny cuz I used to eat 5000-6000 crappy calories per day and now I'm down to only like 2000-3000 clean kcals because now that I found out all my food intolerances and allergies I had to cut like everything out and I didn't loose any weight just lost a lot of bloat in my mid section, went from a 33" waist down to a 29" waist. And now I can see veins in my abs! Haha I thought I was gona shrink especially with all my cardio I do but I didn't

Make an appointment with a trainer, they will help you get started and help with your diet. Watch the various trainers at the gym, see who you like and whose clients look like they are getting results, that will help you pick one.

Took Ash out for sprints and he is finally faster than me. Its nice to have him pushing me to go faster...it sucks knowing he hasn't even came close to reaching his peak speed yet. Exercising him is about to suck in a good way :).
