I know that's what it was on. But I had to stand too close and the timer wasn't long enough with the remote.

Well, just like everyone else, I was waiting for the Aurora Borealis show Friday night which ended up as a big bust. Captured this photo of the moonrise while sitting on the roof. Oh, sweet solitude.

^^ i had a few photos that had similar faint glows, but i was close enough to various cities/towns that i can't honestly say it wasn't just light pollution. :)

And this is cool because of context with the opposite of solitude...

Unfortunately I do not have a camera that's capable of capturing the aurora that I saw. There were visible bright spots that changed position on the horizon and rays extending up into the sky. It was awesome to see, but unfortunate that I couldn't capture an image of them.

Saturday was ruff grouse opener, today got up at 4 AM to pick up a new dog (5 year old fully finished English Setter). On Saturday I almost shot a picture of a fire tower while hunting the Toller but figured you would have done a fire tower shot so didn't LOL, that is solitude in spades. I should have... Still I had a great time this weekend and hope you did too, great job good sir!

Was bumming about not having time/inspiration for this week. Was munching on some of these tasty guys and experimented with the wide angle and macro-ish stuff. :p

    My thoughts:

Pete: Wow, I'm really jealous of your playground! That's an amazing view. I really enjoy that feeling of taking in that expanse when you are alone, and I definitely get that from your picture. The haze makes it difficult to capture, though. I'm wondering if maybe a slightly darker exposure could've made the hills pop out a bit more in the distance?

Nathan: Awesome shot! I like the rocks and the single lighthouse looking over the expanse of the ocean definitely brings the feeling of solitude. If you wanted to highlight the expansive ocean aspect I think a landscape shot would've portrayed that better, but then you'd lose the rocks in the foreground...

Ben: Nice shot bringing that feeling of solitude looking out over the lake and at the stars on your own. I think it might've been better if you were in focus but that would've blurred the stars and background, so I don't know which is better. I am amazed that you stayed that still for a 49 second exposure! That's always my trouble with shots like that.

Monte: Really neat interpretation! I like that, even though you're in a city, you can find those places that allow you a detached view of the city, looking on alone. I feel like your position in the picture is a little off, but I can't pinpoint exactly what would look better, and I'm sure you were limited by something you could stand on, but otherwise really well done!

David: Great moonrise shot! Those are always cool and a little eerie. Really fun to watch on your own and just watch it unfold. Nice job getting the stars in there, too!

Scott: Haha, I like the different ways of looking at your shot as being alone. You've got the single leaf taken out of its pack and getting some "me time" at the metal spa. :p You were also probably on working on it alone in the shop, which is always a nice feeling to kinda escape.

Marc: Awesome Macro work! I really like seeing all of the texture in the pistachio contrasting with the smoothness of the table. Great lighting and background blur, too! It's hard to relate to the solitude of the nut, though.

Hernan: Wow, definitely get the strong sense of solitude with the mist and the water blending together to remove the horizon and to close you in. The blocked out sun really helps to highlight that effect!

Great job this week! Really made it a tough decision. It was a tough pick between Pete's, Nathan's, and Hernan's shots. The winner is Nathan! The great colors and solitary lighthouse helped it stand out among the rest. Congratulations, Nathan!

Congrats Nathan. That was a beaut.

Kevin, my so-called "entry" was not really an entry, more knee-jerk smart phone response to Murph's goading and a statement of being too busy at the moment to play with the new camera. I'll avoid doing that in the future to avoid confusion. But you did hit on all the reasons I posted that particular shot.:)

Wow, thanks for the nod Kevin. I just wanted to throw my picture into the mix, not thinking that it would compete with the skill level that's present in this thread.

    NEW CHALLENGE:

    Light Painting/Light Drawing

I know this one's been done before, but I want to change the requirements up a bit. Light painting in the sense of selectively lighting a subject will not be allowed.

Here are a few examples of what I'm looking for.

Think we can pull this off? If you guys have an issue with slightly altering a previous challenge let me know and I'll think of something else. If not... then good luck. :D

Sounds like a great challenge Nathan. I knew I should have bought that damn PixelStick in December. :(

Great feedback Kevin! I know the single nut was a far shot on solitude but I couldn't not post anything :)
