How much will my truck be worth in 5 years?

Hey guys,

Just bought a 2014 V6 base with convenient package and with the tow package and paid 30,750 out the door.

I know you can't give an exact number, but what should I expect to get in 5 years once its paid off?

Again, I would like to hear between x and x.

Look and see what trucks are going for now that are 5 years old

 

Not exactly the same time frame you are asking about but i just traded in my 2005 trd sport, 4x4, double cab shortbed, auto trans with 144k miles ,it had a dirty carfax (front impact with a deer) i got $9800 for it.

 

$18-$20,000 Trade-in

And about $22,000 Clean Retail.

That is if the market is close to the same as it is now.
And you might take 5% off each figure to be more "realistic"

This is just my opinion based on current market values.

 

With a hopeful new model in 2016 you never know how that will affect the re sale of 2nd gen tacomas

That's what I was thinking too, the next model almost always instantly depreciates the old model. But Tacoma's are a weird beast in this regard, as an example on Sunday when I got my '14 TRD/OR, they had no joke, an OK condition 2001, V6 PreRunner for get ready for this............ $17,500. Isn't that like $2K less than that truck sold for new in 2001?

Here was another 2001, 1st gen Tacoma I found for what I think is insane money for something 12 years old, with over 100K miles.

Op values should continue to stay high for Tacoma's in general, but I think the 2nd gen will take a hit if the 3rd gen is leaps & bounds improved over the current (which I hope but I doubt will be the case).

So is throwing a dollar amount on something 5 years early. Tomorrow you might hit a deer. Or maybe the week before you're paid off someone runs a red light and you're total loss.

In 2011, I sold my 2005 dclb 4x4 sport. It was super clean and had almost 130k. Only mods were Bilstein 5100's front and rear. I sold it for $15k even. Remember, different parts of the country, these Tacoma's can go for higher than normal prices.

Your truck i'd say probably between $14k and $17k, depending how well it still looks and drives. It's not a TRD Offroad or Sport right? Just sr5 4x4?

With the introduction of the Pro Edition I think you are right.
I think Toyota will ride the Gen 2 a few more years.
Don't think a Gen 2.5 will bring in new buyers.
They need a 3.0 or radical change before people turn loose of their Gen 2's.

 

TnShooter I would agree with you but if you look even back at the 1st gen tacomas, they are still worth a shitload. I just hope the same applies to the second gen.

 

First gens are increasingly rare......

 

1st gens aren't that rare here in Nor Cal, It's about 60/40, with 60% 2nd gens, overall I strongly believe there are more 2nd gens built than total amount of 1st gens. But 1st gens never were rare, and are definitely not hard to find. Probably spotted 20 gen 1's today alone. Probably saw more than 100 2nd gens today (But that's a selective observation).

I wanted a 3-5 year old used Tacoma like the new one I bought ('14 TRD OR DC SB V6 Auto 4x4) with 70k or less miles.

EVERYTHING I found in that age and mileage range equipped like I wanted was WITHIN $5k of new.

WHO BUYS THOSE TRUCKS?

I just couldn't understand the logic. Yes Tacoma's hold their value incredibly well, BUT......somebody has to BUY them at THOSE PRICES for the values to hold. I just didn't get it. Still don't. Therefore, bought new. If there's a safer bet among new automobiles $ versus usage wise IVE never heard of it.

Thats something i dont understand either, a taco that is a few years old is only a few thousand dollars cheaper than a brand new one...with new truck incentives from dealers along with it being easier to get financed on a new truck vs used.
