Not exactly the answer youre looking for but my dad just bought a 2012 DCSB TRD 4x4 Off Road (which came out in 2011) for $28,000. It had 16k miles. So thats a 3 yr old Tacoma and the original price was $32,000. So id guess around $25,000 for a 5 yr old Tacoma like his. If that helps any.

Good lord shadow. I bet your truck scares small children at night when you drive down the street. your sig picture is unreal. Awesome lights man.

Its like that scene from Home Alone. When he has to go down to the basement to do laundry and the Furnace kicks on. Thats what your truck lights look like.

Sold my 2005 AC Prerunner Sport last year with 65K miles for $17,600. Paid $24680 OTD in 05. Had bolt-on sliders, 285 BFG's, 6 speed, Icon coilovers and Billys in the rear. It was in perfect shape with 0 dings. Basically my DD and only saw a few dirt roads in its life. I think thats excellent resale. Loved that truck. Was a tough decision to sell but really wanted a 4X

Tacoma's like any other car/ truck won't appreciate like a home, but it's a similar commodity. In that you would ask "Why would someone buy a crummy 1100 sq/ft home that needs work in a highly desirable zip code or school district at a high price? " Because they know despite the high price they have to pay to live there, they know the likelihood of losing on their investment is fairly slim.

Buying a used Tacoma would be similar.

Basically, the guy who only has $25k to spend and not $30k. Not everybody buys new, even when they have the money. $5k savings is $5k savings. Y U SO CONFUSE

My 2011 has a 26,000 trade in value and 30,000 if I sell privately.

But Tacos are more expensive in Canada to buy new.

I just bought my 08 double cab for 19,000. It is 6 years old and was in immaculate condition, but I saw some the same year going for older.... I just like to believe that I scored :D

I'm on my 5th Toyota (first Taco) and I have sold them all myself when it's been time to buy. It seems most Toyotas hold their value well - especially ones in good shape. Keep all your service documentation, and when it comes time to sell it, you'll be in a good position to get top dollar.

    Wow....

Just did a quick Autotrader for the value on my own truck. Retail $19-20,0000.

My truck is almost 8 years old w/65k miles and I paid $29,000 new.

    That's pretty damn good!!! :D

a lot of this speculation depends on production numbers from Toyota. If they do not produce as many as demand currently requires, the price will stay high even if there is a dramatic change with a new generation. The legacy that Tacoma has now will not change.

I traded an '06 (I know, more than 5 years old) in (around March of this year) for my new Taco. It was a stock TRD OR 6 speed manual with around 50k miles. After a big of haggling I got 15k for it.

I'm of the belief that resale value depends largely on where you are located. On the various car yack sites I belong to all kinds of price variation can be seen in both trade-in value and drive out price.

If you ask the ad valorum tax collectors in this county, it will be worth exactly the same for 5 years in a row.
