I think some guys Plasti Derp their exhaust tips, so I think it handles heat ok. I can't see the cover getting that hot anyway.

I would just keep it stock though. Wish I would've done that.

Either that, or really go all out and do the taping off of the logo and other lettering like some guys do. Not sure if I can be that patient with painter's tape though :D

Cleaned under the hood and in the engine bay today. Wasn't as clean as possible, but my patience with cleaning with a toothbrush was wearing thin by the end of it so I stopped at "good enough."

It was absolutely filthy with muddy water spots everywhere (as you can kind of see in the hood lighting kit picture above) so any difference is better than nothing to me.

Have mine still, only 4200 miles on it. Make me an offer and I can throw it in the truck for the Big Dogs deal.

Just ordered the BAMF CB tailgate mount, CB antenna, stud mount, and coax cable to go with the Cobra I got for $8 :)

I have a question for anyone with CB knowledge (since I have none). Can I unscrew the antenna when I'm not using it without messing up my SWR or do you have to re-meter if you remove the antenna?

I would rather not have it on all the time and I'm not sure what the best method would be to secure it bending towards the cab since I have my bed cover. If anyone has any ideas, I could do that though.

Cleaned up the hood light install by putting the positive wire into my Blue Sea instead of directly to the battery and then labeled it.

Also swapped out my cut OEM 12'' antenna for my brother's extra OEM 16'' antenna. (he has an aftermarket shorty) I never use the radio and the reception with the 12'' was decent, but I figured it's better to have a little better reception just in case. I'm not sure if I like the look better or not yet.

I also was messing around with my bed cover and happened to look down on the driveway, and I saw a wheel weight just laying there. Took a look under my truck and sure enough, it fell off my driver side rear wheel. Put some 3M outdoor/indoor tape and stuck it back on. Hopefully it stays.

Didn't see anything in that thread.

Yes you can remove your CB antenna w/o SWR issues.

    Coolio :)

I think I'll just stick with my engine cover unless you were willing to let yours go for like $20. I don't wanna insult you with a low offer like that but I don't really have the cash to spare for something aesthetic like that.

That could work...I'll let you know if I'm not gonna make it to the meet for whatever reason.

    Thanks Chris!

Going to try and stop the rust process on my undercarriage that I have been noticing. Just ordered some Fluid Film to try out and going to pick up some Rustoleum Rust Reformer and gloss spray paint for top coat soon.

Not sure when I'll have time to do it, but I would like to get some protection before winter comes. They're pretty liberal with the sand/salt in this area during the winter so I'd like to get this done. I am interested to see how long the Fluid Film lasts. I have been doing some reading over the past couple days, and some have results lasting for a month, up to six months to a year. I think I will periodically check and see how its holding up, and if its doing well, I'll apply more as it stops working. Hoping for at least three months of protection between applications though.

    Think my process will be:

    1. Thoroughly wash and scrub undercarriage
    2. Wire brush / sand all rust I see or can get to
    3. Rustoleum Rust Reformer (2 coats)
    4. Rustoleum Gloss Black (2 coats)
    5. Fluid Film (2 coats)
What's everyone's opinions on painting directly onto suspension parts such as leaf springs (since I have already noticed rust on my Expo's) and other parts that are not the frame? I think I will avoid spray bombing parts like my coilovers, upper control arms, and rear shocks but I have noticed rust on my leaf springs and lower control arms. Fluid Film is apparently safe in all applications, so I may just avoid suspension parts as best I can and just use the fluid film on the surface rust that is on suspension parts to be safe.

Right now, everything is essentially surface rust since I only have 29K miles, but I would rather be proactive than get holes in my frame five years from now, and then have Toyota reject any type of frame replacement help since I have modifications such as welded sliders.

I wanted to rust encapsolate my whole frame this summer but couldn't afford to have my truck down for a whole week to do it the way i wanted to do it.

I would focus on the frame as it is not as replaceable as the things attached to it lol

I think I will focus on the frame with the rust reformer, paint, and Fluid Film like you said, and just fluid film the rest so there's just at least little bit of protection.

I'm gonna shoot for the second week of October I think since I will have a four day weekend from school. I will just have to hitch a ride or borrow one of my parent's cars to go to the fire department for my Friday shift.

I want to brush on the rust encapsolator and then to black paint over it.... That would take a while....

Its a damn shame because i had no rust before last winter. I HATE that they use so much salt in the mid atlantic....its ridiculous...

Yeah they really lay it down around here. I will try out using spray cans for all steps this time around since I consider myself pretty good with rattlecanning, so hopefully it will keep the time down.
