No problems with that, it's the comments about "they should/would be shot" that are off the wall

    Not enough...
    Sorry about the trouble, OP.

I never locked my Jetta because it looked like shit, passenger side did not lock (stupid air pump locks) and because the only thing of value there was a $100 detachable face Pioneer stereo.

One day get in the car and can't find the faceplate for the stereo. I took it off sometimes and either took it home or left in the door pocket. Looked around. Not in the car. Went back upstairs. Nope. Not there. Back to the car. Looked at the front passenger window and saw a bunch of palm prints. Someone pushed the window down, stole the faceplate from the stereo and then pushed when window back up.... All while the actual door was completely unlocked.... heh

Years ago I had a repair shop and we had problems with stuff going missing from customers cars having a good ideal who it was lifting the stuff I put rat traps in the cars. Under the dash in door pockets and the glove box after awhile we had no more problems and a local kid with a bandaged hand.

here is something I did back in the late 80's when my car was broken into and the radio stolen.

When I installed the new one I bought some straight edge razor blades and super glued them to the side edge of the radio so that the edge was just about a 1/16 inch over.So that when they grabbed it it would not cut much deeper than that.

3 weeks later someone tried to do it again but they received a hand full of cuts I did have a mess to clean up.

We did find out who was doing it when we found a kid with bandages on his hands a few days later.....

Ya I'm just amazed they didnt grab my radio or iPod! would have thought that would be why someone broke into the truck in the first place....

LMAO...you can't set traps for thieves that will do bodily harm to them. Thats almost as dumb as trying to kill someone over material items.

You people do that and your likley to get sued and land in jail while the thief is out spending the cash he got from his lawsuit. So silly...

    enough to go over stuff
Personally I have no respect at all for thevies. And I will protect myself but not my property with a weapon. On the 4th of July I was awakend around 3 in the morning by some people outside my house. It looked to be about 4 guys and a lady or two in my driveway messing with my truck. I put on cloths and grabed my hand gun and put it on the hutch next to my front door. I walked out side and asked them what they were doing. They said they just like my truck and were checking it out. They were real handsy with it though. We talked for a minute and they continued walking down the street. This could have gone a different way. But I didnt know their intentions. I was out numbered by drunk people and I didnt want to bring a gun into the mix. I figured I could make it inside my front door if I was in danger and there it would be easier to defend a case in court.

What would you guys have done?
    Was there a better Option?

To the OP. I am sorry. When stuff gets stolen you just feel violated. I hate that feeling.

nah... walking out to confront 3-4 drunk people by yourself at 3am sounds perfectly safe to me.

here's a good tip....if you have a gun...act just like you would if you did not. Taking risks because you "think" your safe because of a gun is typically how people end up dead.

I hate having my truck broken into and it's happened twice. Unfortunately, you can't legally set a trap because you might violate the criminal's rights. The rights of criminals must always be respected. I read just yesterday that a fine gentleman who raped and murdered a woman and her two daughters, one 11, had his rights violated because the prison, where he was on Death Row, forgot to serve him Kosher food.

Dude - you're from CA...who you kidding? You have no rights.

Anyone who puts razor blades under their own door handles is a f*cking retard. In an emergency situation you want to cut the hands of the EMS when they are trying to save your life? What about a friend? Or a 5yo child in a parking lot playing around?

What the F are you talking about? How does razor blades under my own door handle that I would remove after the night( hoping to see blood spots on the ground from the scum bag) have anything to do with friends, kids and EMT's?

Thanks for the clarification, but I'm not misunderstanding anything. I have several safes full of toys and another at my bed. Doesn't change the fact that talking on the internet about shooting someone for stealing your iPod and a pack of cigarettes is cool or rational thinking.

Drawing down on someone is a life changing experience, a billion times more so if a trigger is pulled. I guess it's hella cool to talk about how easy it is to shoot someone over $200 worth of crap, but in reality anybody who thinks that's the way to act as a gun owner in our country needs to re-examine things a bit. If you disagree, that's fine. Gun ownership and the attitude behind it has shifted dramatically in the last 5 years and there are WAY too many people vocalizing in public, carrying in public "to make a point about rights," when all they're really doing is being fucking idiots and making everyone else look like a psycho like them.

I fall on one side of the gun owner line, there are many others who are on the other.

Generally speaking, it's never a wise idea to talk about shooting anybody for any reason on an internet forum.

Firing a weapon is the absolute last resort, and it doesn't reflect well on anybody to think that pulling a trigger is an appropriate response to a theft in progress and other non-violent crimes. Not for police, not for citizens.
