Any unseen difference with the 2015 models that fixes the vibration issue?

Thanks, this is the heart of what I was wondering - whether all the threads on this forum were the effect of a vocal minority on a problem that is actually pretty rare, or whether it's a widespread problem that the majority of people have just accepted because their money is gone.

My 2014 BCSB Sport has 4 leaf pack no shim, build date 5/14. 900 miles no vibes yet. A little steering wheel shimmy at 70mph.

It sounds like the leaf pack issues were solved in the '14 and '15 models? I'm expecting a '15 AC OR any day now and I'm concered about both the vib issues and the weak springs.

I thought it's fairly obvious what he's asking. It's in the thread title.

What I don't understand is how many people get themselves all worked up just because they don't have the issue. No one is pissing in your cheerios, it's just a mechanical problem with a truck. Is your toyota stock going down from all these forum posts with people calling them out?

I have a 2014 with 9K mls on it now...no vibs at all...drives smooth as always. I will only level it out and lift the front a little so I don't expect a lot of vibs from the lift either without lifting the rear.

My first Tacoma and my first post. Been dreaming about owning one since high school. Fresh from the TX Gulf port with 11 miles on it, drove home, and started questioning my purchase after the steering wheel nearly vibrated out of my hand. For me, the pattern appears to be 2K RPM. Things smooth out when accelerating up to 75mph+. Here's a video of it: http://youtu.be/MasQLql_RW4 This is a 2015 Base DC V6 AT.

Weird, I just purchased a left over 2014, TRD/ Off Road, DC on Sunday. I have only driven two newer ones, the one I purchased and the one earlier that day, same truck and options, just blue ribbon in color.

The blue truck was a 2015, and had a serious shake in the steering wheel between 45-60 mph, looked just like your video (And this truck had 12 miles on it when I took it out for a spin). The left over 2014 I ended up with has absolutely zero shake in the wheel, thankfully.

My 2014, V6 (auto) TRD/OR, DC actually has zero vibes or unusual annoyances (Aside from the A/C compressor bump when idling at stop lights). It blows my mind that some people have these vibes and some don't.

when stopping the steering vibrations or shutter or whatever you want to call it are pretty universal, about everyone comments on it. i had mine since june 2006 when i watched them unload it off the truck and the vibration when coming to a stop has always been there, from when before i lifted it with spacers and it was bone stock, then after i lifted it with spacers, then still when i removed the spacers and put it back to oem, then still when i put the crappy 5100's, then still there when i put it back to stock, and it is still there now even with nice 2.75" coil/strut and leaf/shock setup.

the truck rides 10x better than stock with the latest upgrades, but vibration/shutter never changed.

lift has nothing to do with those vibrations.

as far as driveline goes, a couple times i noticed vibrations and even after inspecting pretty hard, the u-joints looked ok, but when i replaced them anyway the driveline vibration went away. but thats like every 50K miles, not a common occurrence.

tacomas will always have 2 distinct traits:

    - the tacoma shimmy/shutter/vibration when breaking
    - the tacoma 'tick' from the valves

always has been, always will, but they about as sound a vehicle as ever made and wouldn't trade it for anything.

I just got a new 2014 DC trd offroad and it has a very slight steering wheel shake till the tires warmup. I know of the issues like this before I bought the truck and felt it during the test drive. It's so minor it wasn't a deal breaker for me, if that's all I have to worry about is a slight almost undetectable steering wheel shake I'll take it, compared to the problems I had with my ecoboost f150...

I have a 2012, I have never experienced shudder or vibration that you guys are reffering to. One thing that I might have to mention as a sidenote is that mine is a 4x4. Since new I have lifted it 3," added an AAL to the rear, a new U-bolt flip kit, and changed out to 32's. Even after all of these mods. Still no vibes. Must have gotten lucky. Or I must've done something right.

That tick from the valves is actually tick from the injectors.

Just an FYI - Picked up my 2015 AC OR. It has the 3+overload leaf pack. There is some slight driveline vib when accelerating very hard in a straight line from 0-10mph, nothing major. I probably wouldn't have even noticed it if I hadn't been looking for it.

Can anyone comment further on this? Those of you who upgraded from an earlier model year to a 2015, is the 15-25 vibe gone?

I recently purchased a 15 DCSB SR5 and have not noticed any odd vibrations. It's my first Tacoma and I've gotta say.. I'm pretty impressed.

I have a '15 TRD OR 4x4 AC v6 mt built in TX. No drive line vibes and rides great on a smooth surface. However... as soon as the front wheels encounter any kind of resistance i get play in the steering. Its not terrible but its there and not very confidence inspiring when off road. Ive read that there was a TSB for this problem but Toyota ended it and continued to use the faulty part that is causing it which i think has something to do with the steering column. There's an easy DIY fix and write-ups on this forum. I think its Toyota's responsibility to fix it but I live too far from a dealership and dont feel like fighting with them and Toyota to make it right. I'll just live with it. To get to the OP's point, It wouldn't keep me from buying the truck. You either want a Tacoma or you don't. IMO, there's not competition. And one other thing, ive read complaints about the manual transmission and personally i think its perfectly fine. But there you go, some seem to have issues some dont.

My new tacoma runs sweet as silk.

Keep it stock if you don't know how.

Lift it, put on big wheels, without knowing, you take your chances.

Many people here can lift their rigs or put on awesome wheels without any problems. Do some research.

    Carry on.

Wish I had known about the vibration issue on Tacoma's before I bought mine. I have a 2015 double cab V6 auto 4x4 long bed with 1600 miles on it. It has the low speed shutter when accelerating and some vibration from 50 - 70 mph. Had it in twice to the dealer and the dealer said it was over inflated tires the first time and the second time said it was normal and drove just like another one on the lot. Its not a lot of vibration, just enough to be annoying. Come on Toyota, this is an old issue. Sounds like a design flaw to me.

I too have been worried in the past about these vibes and have actually started a thread or 2 getting peoples input on the vibes.

Follow the advise in the above post and you should do fine. He nails it. Pay special attention to #4. I've had 2 stock Tacomas now and no vibe on either. Knock on wood for my '14 - it only has 5400 miles.

lots of them vibe but lots of them don't. some ppl are more sensitive to the vibes as most of us know it shouldn't vibe. as mentioned earlier in this thread, don't order one, find one on a lot and test drive the crap out of it. have the sales person keep their mouths shut. i would actually have them sit in the back as to not annoy me... don't let anybody try to say it is the tires, it is pretty much never the tires, especially under acceleration.. i noticed what felt like a bit of chugging in 5th gear driving up a long hill when i did the short test drive with mine, just thought it was the under powered 4cyl motor, well it wasn't! it was the 55-65mph drone/vibe annoyance.
