No time warp necessary, just a little history lesson. GM is on the hook for that recall they ignored for a decade for a problem that KILLED PEOPLE and that sets the president for them to be on the hook for all the class action lawsuits they escaped from when they declared bankruptcy. That alone could be enough to sink the company again, but they are also still making complete garbage for vehicles. This has nothing to do with Toyota, Toyota could be making cars that explode at 50,000 km, it wouldn't make GM's garbage electrical systems any better. GM are still turning out too many vehicles too fast and ignoring quality. They are still using substandard suppliers and outsourcing manufacturing based on lowest cost alone. They are still heavily dependant on gas guzzling truck sales for their survival. Little has changed. Anyone who keeps a GM past the warranty period deserves what they get. GM has to offer 0% for 84 months on top of deep discounts for a reason. Their resale value is still in the toilet.

Look at the Volt, GM's marketing department isn't exactly on the ball.

That's exactly what I was thinking. How could they have so many orders for trucks that haven't hit the dealer lots yet. So they're trying to make us believe people are buying these sight unseen, no test drives, etc. ?

Maybe some are fleet sales too, but it's highly unlikely many people if anyone is buying the Colorado/Canyon just based on pictures and spec sheets.

There is a lot of hype too. I posted a week or so ago that Motor Trend was picking the Colorado/Canyon as the "best" midsize pickup, just based on GM's spec sheets. No test drives or real evaluation. Ridiculous.

Because the small truck segment is small potatoes in the big picture.

    Cracks me up too.

I mean, drive a semi if you want.
    Free country. :)

But I see so many empty bedded pick-ups.
Lot of money and gas to haul a large box of air.

I do have to complain about one I saw. :D
Chevy with a diesel, but the kid had a single pipe in the center of the bed nearly the diameter of a full size trash can.

He pulled out, it looked like a coal fired locomotive. You'd have thought he was burning a tire for fuel. You actually had to back away simply to see.

We have plenty of coal rollers like that here in lower Michigan. Ruining a perfectly good bed with pipes cut through it

These trucks will sell similar to what the previous gen did. A fully loaded Canyon/Colorado is pushing 36k. A Sierra/Silverado double cab with leather can be had for that price with the steep discounts that are being offered.

Dealer orders dont mean anything. Our local chevy dealer has 100 silverados collecting dust. I want to see the number of customer orders from dealers.

Even if it wasn't for the fact that I'll never buy another chevy - I wouldn't buy one now due to the latest debacle.

That's not an excuse to hold back demo's from magazines and third party reviewers. If the market isn't there why even bring the truck to market by that logic...

Yeah, that's what killed the first generation Colorado's. My ex-wife got her first Z71 Silverado for the same price that it would of cost us after wheeling and dealing for a Z71 Colorado. Where's the point in buying the mid size then?

I think the diesel will have some purpose fuel economy wise but if it's a 3-4 thousand dollar option then I think more people will just opt to buy the full sized silverado for less money.

    Every time I see pictures of the new Colorado, I can't help but think GM designers and engineers just copied the Tacoma. And to prove my point, here's a comment from the Colorado forum;

    "
I think the Canyons are way better looking than the Colorados however I hate that GM made these resemble damn toyotas! I just saw a new tacoma and the fender lines and the way the rear window sill sweeps up is almost identical. Its so stupid. "

Ha. Cracks me up. I hope the interiors in the Colorado/Canyon look better in person than in those pictures. If not, I think my Tacoma interior is nicer.

Don't get me wrong, I hope GM does OK. I owned nothing but GM's from 1985 until 2013. Not many complaints. But it was also convenient because my neighbor was my salesman for all those years, my good friend was a mechanic in the service dept. and my dealer was five minutes away from my house. But GM closed the dealership I used after it was there for over 50 years because they weren't on a highway?! And weren't doing the volume GM thought they should?! So my neighbor retired and then I moved here 3 years ago. Now I have my Tacoma and a Hyundai Santa Fe and I have to say, I'm pretty darn happy with both of them.

I don't think so. Once you turbo/supercharge the engine needs extra octane to keep from pinging. Premium fuel runs is at least $0.25 extra per gallon.

I just want Toyota reliability with more hp and tourque... not outrageously more but about 270hp at least.... the frontier is at 261.

Well, that's why TRD has a supercharger that you can add.

But because of the premium fuel surcharge, I don't think it'll ever happen that Toyota makes a blanket change to add it to the base model of any of its trucks.

You are right on GM benchmarking the Tacoma, its the leader in this segment. It will be interesting to see how these do, The Tacoma is such a well known name and the Colorado is just remembered as junk because of the last generation.

Iv'e owned several GM's in my life and none of them were junk. I also had a Dodge Dakota that I really like a lot prior to the Tacoma.
