Enough to make it a lot of fun!
I have the 1600cc motor in my 64 vw beetle, runs like a champ. Had a friend that said it sounded like a tank.

Spent many years working on EMD 645's and have grown fairly attached to the old iron... about 2200hp in the 12cyl single turbo configuration that I was running.

Now I work on MTU 4000's. They are ok... 2350hp 16cyl twin turbo.

Actually a friend in high school had a 305 in an 86 Chevy half ton 2wd that was bad ass.

I have to say my favorite is the Ecoboost but the 3.4 in the first Gen are awesome. My old man's had 318k miles and still trucking.

Toyota 2JZ 3-liter I6 was a nice motor. I always liked those straight sixes, and Toyota made a good one.

This was a sweet straight six. The 1979 Honda CBX. 1050cc, DOHC, 105hp, 8200 redline, six carburetors, six speed trans. If you ever hear a bike that sounds like a Ferrari V12, look around and you'll see a Honda CBX.

Antron Brown's top fuel dragster- 8.2 liters of pure hell. When he makes a pass it feels like the dragstrip is being bombed.

    all for simplicity and durability.

My 2006 R6 for the incredible RPM's it made for a spring return valve. peak HP at 15,800 and all out redline at 16,500. Fun fact though, my 06 tach maxes at 20,000 with a claimed redline of 17,500. Yamaha later recalled those tachometers to replace them with a corrected redline of 16,500. They lied about the max RPM!

either way, when you hear one coming, youll know it. i always think, "shift dude shift!" but its still a few thousand from peak power.

All though not stellar performers the slant 6 and 22R series Toyota engines were about as bullet proof as it gets.

Gotta go with my buddy's windsor 289 in his 65 mustang, still runs great after 50 years, and it's still mostly stock. Oh and it sounds pretty good too with his true duals :D

Largest engine I have experience on is a B & W inline ten cylinder. Had three 7' diameter turbochargers and was rated for 58,600HP at 90rpm's.

How about the Fairbanks Morse Opposing Piston Straight 12, with 24 pistons and two crankshafts? Popular heavy marine engine.
