Weak Tailgate

How much did that cost you and does it wrap over the tailgate? That's pretty rad.

 

Once you bolt the sheet down onto the tailgate, how much strength is that bend really providing?

 

probably 95% of it

 

You'd be absolutely shocked at how flimsy sheet metal is when flat, and even more shocked to see how it stiffens up when you put a bend or two in it.

Everything on my 2014 strikes me as being pretty light duty. I had planned on installing a moderate lift and stuff but after looking at the truck closer I am leaving it stock. Still a great truck for the money and still does everything I need it to do while riding ATVs, hunting, hauling brush, etc. The Tacoma is a mid-size / light-duty truck, period.

Yeah, I don't think my cap can fix that.

 

I wouldn't put it past our tailgate to fail like this, but it looks like it may have been backed into something with the gate down, to cause that. But I can also picture in my head, an over weight gardener, say 240-250 ish standing there, and trying to lift a 50 gallon tub full of wet grass onto that truck and snap.

 

Is that a VW Beetle pan?
