i need some advice! 2 weeks ago my wife and her mother used my truck to set up for a yard sale, prior to this my truck ran like a dream. she mentioned getting gas and the next day the cel was on, in my normal fashion i get very angry and go to autozone to get code read. he said it was a gascap issue, probably did not tighten it correctly so i told him to just reset it. fast foward to the next week and its on first thing in the morning, so i bought a locking gas cap, pulled the - cable on battery and reset it. now after the new cap its back on again and seems to have a slightly rough idle in park with the a/c on. my ? is can this be a inferior cap or do i need to check the v.s.v and charcoal canister? where is the vsv located and would napa carry them? it doesnt seem to hinder it any it still runs very strong, just that stupid light and after the first PAYMENT it decides to start throwing codes.

It could be that everything is recalibrating itself after the batter disconnect. U could get the torque app and a blue tooth adapter and check all ur statuses on ur phone and also clear codes without disconnected the bat. App is $5 and u can get adapters on Amazon for $15 ish. Its a cool thing to have anyway. But i would give ur truck another half a tank or so and see if it gets better

Would it run 2 weeks on that? Really hot i suppose, and in LA it wont last running that hot with that heat.

I see you stated "bought a new locking gas cap"...
Search for "gas cap" and you'l find some threads listing CEL issues with some locking caps.

    Good luck...you let a MIL/Wife/SO touch your truck? F'in A man...:)

Shok Industries 2/0 big 4 upgrade and sound deadener.
That would be my guess. I'd leave the stock cap because of the previously mentioned issues with locking caps. If it comes back get the actual code and post it then we know what system it is specifically.

Diesel would give you a lot worse than a CEL and rough idle....
    perhaps e-85
some gas stations here in CA have started putting ethanol in their "regular" flavors of gas.

The lock on the gas cap has nothing to do with if its getting a good seal, it just keeps idiots out of your tank. Perhaps buying one from toytoa and see if youre getting the same code.

Doesn't she have a car? It sure seem unlikely she would put any thing other than gas in it. But you can blame her for all your problems if you want.

Are you sure it's a check engine light?

And not the oil change reminder?

Does she have a habit of topping off the tank? If she did could the canister. I don't trust vatozone and their scanners. I'd have some one else scan it.

Autozone/Advance Auto can no longer delete CELs... Buy yourself a CEL reader for $50 and you can delete trouble codes.

So it only appeared once and you switch out the cap? Why not let it duplicate and get the CEL a couple more times.

K-1 = is Kerosene. Usually it doesn't sit in with the Automotive pumps.
