Que pasa, so how does back spacing on wheels work. Do the stock wheels have like zero back spacing?

A bumper here, some tires there..... you know, stuff.
basically backspacing is the distance from the inside rim edge to the mounting surface where the lugs go

so a wheel with 3.25" BS will stick out further from the truck than a wheel with 4" BS.

the less BS = the more the wheel will stick out from the truck

i'm sure someone will go into it in more detail but thats the basics

    Nada, Y tu?

Back spacing is how many inches the mounting surface of the wheel is from the inner lip.

So say you have an 8" wheel with 4.5" of BS. That means the mounting surface if dead center of the wheel. Wheel have a 1/2" lip on both side of them so an 8" wheel is really 9" wide, which is why 4.5" is the center of an 8" wheel. The less backspacing you have the more your wheels stick out.

Offset is how many mm the mounting surface is from center. An 8" wheel with 4.5" BS has a 0mm offset because it is centered. An 8" wheel with 3.5" BS is going to have something like a 25.4mm offset (I can't remember which way is positive and negative off the top of my head though). I think it will be negative though when the wheel is further from the vehicle.

Hmm thanks! So if I wanted the equivlent of having 1.25in wheel spacers on my stock 16in wheels, how much back spacing would I want? 7.25?

No. Other way around. Spacers "decrease the backspacing value"

Sorry, I worded that last question poorly. I want to get new wheels, how much bs will I want on new wheels in order to have the equivalent of 1.25 in wheel spacers on my stock wheels? Thanks

    3.25" BS

Just take the stock bs, 4.5" and subtract the 1.25" spacers would add.

    3.25 isn't a popular choice. But 3.5 or 3.75 is.

I'm likely headed to WY this weekend. Though not much farther than Alpine I'm sure. My wife and I are just heading to Palisades to check out all the fall colors everyone has been raving about around here.
