It's a dana 44. It's my first time setting up gears. Looks like too flat of a pattern to me dbc4894d8fa7dc79a83fa371118404c7_d03a228a28988262a7f76d350db3fdf03dda2c18.jpg393b96fcc0c1867b57209dbed431e009_70169f6324711b20f5dd6f467ff42c5ce8576214.jpg

Agreed, contact seems good but between my tired ass eyes/you're pics & goop (I'm assuming) on the ring & pinion too I assume makes it hard to tell for sure , did your pinion bearing take a shit ??

Clean'em up & if the burn/score marks are even & centered, they're probably ok, I lost pretty much all pre load & could rotate the pinion about an inch out of the diff..

The backlash is about .009. The Preload feels good

This is a 538 dana 44 on my front sas.

Wanted to make sure it was ok befor I but it back together. The pattern just looked a bit flat to me.

Thats kinda what I meant about cleaning up the ring, I can't tell if I see an irregular surface across the teeth or if it's grease ... I didnt read, what prompted opening in the first place ?? , rebuild ? upgrade ? or as asked , pinion ? Making noise ??... Anyway it DOES look like your burn-in is in the middle which is pretty much where you'd want to be (matched gears) right in the meat of it ..
