Alex, Thanks for initiating this thread on the forum.

I just heard today that I will be a sweep driver with my '93 Toyota.

I will share what I learn.

In the mean time I would offer the following thoughts for consideration:

It might be worthwhile to contact the Prescott Forrest Service to see if "they" are closing the area to recreation and camping.

The race program may not be able to promote spectators due to insurance liability costs & concerns.

Learning from the tragedy in California 3-4 years ago, anyone camping/viewing along the FR should stay back at least 50' from roads edge, and away from outside turns.

Anyone learn anything else about this? I'll be up in Prescott on the 2nd anyways, and so it would be cool to be able to check this out on Fri/Sat.

For anyone familiar with the three sections of road that they will be using, i would suggest caming along the Perkinsville section. This is not being used on Friday so you might be able to get in and set your camp for the weekend. Fridays racing on the First View and Witty Tom sections runs until probably 9:30 PM.

You can view and print the Stage maps on their website.

They will drive the Rally cars out of Prescott at 8:00 AM heading for the Perkinsville road section to start the day. First vehicle on the course at 8:52 AM.

If you are camping in the forest, and vehicles happen by, what's to stop you from looking? I would just set camp far enough off the road to be SAFE!

Interesting event. Other than the dust when the cars would pass, campers would have had some interesting diversionary views.

19 of 25 registered competitiors participated in the event with 15 vehicles surviving.

The competing vehicles were all small sedans including a Datsun 240Z. The Toyota race truck unfortunately did not show up. So disappointing, but my 93 survived all 12 stages. They had what they referred to as a fast sweep vehicle which was a race ready Toyota Celica, that sported a lift kit.

Fridays racing had the first 2 stages in daylight, and the final 2 after dark.

Those with any interest in this style of racing should look at all of the rules posted on their website. Full internal cages are required, and must be assembled by a certified welder.

Saturdays racing was highlighted with a youth who was successful with bagging his first deer.
