if you run a straight pipe and go with a bigger exhaust diameter your going to loose some torque, i wouldn't go larger cause when you loose torque you will also lose mpg.

if i went with a little bit of a smaller piping do you think i would gain a little more torque? i was thinking about maybe just staying with the same size diameter. (what is the stock diameter? lol)
sound isnt really too much of an issue i dont think. i run a straight pipe on my wrx.
would it be too loud for others when out on the trail?

honestly a straight pipe is lound as hell and not that clean sounding, if you want a exhaust that is still loud and clean sounding get flowmaster 10 series. my friend has it on his 4.0 ranger and sounds like a v8. its only 4" long

After the cat i went with 3" pipe all the way back and im running straight pipes no mufflers :). I have the 3.4 v6 and personally I like the way it sounds pretty darn good

IMO my system has a pretty deep tone compared to other 4.0 Tacomas i've met in person. Quiet at idle but a beast a WOT. That red Tacoma sounds likes a pissed off Corolla.

I suggest an exhaust cutout. You can make all the noise you want when you open her up or have the quiet stock exhaust when you're on the highway or somehting.

I have the raceready performance and the switch fits perfectly in one of the empty slots to the left of the steering wheel.

Here's a pic and video of mine. In person it sounds so much deeper though. I used my laptop to record it that's why it sounds kinda weak.
