4 cylinder mpg's of the Gm twins nearly match those of the Tacoma.27-19-22.Tacomas are 25-19-21.A bit more hp n torque with the same fuel ratings.

GM's new I4 has 25.7% more horsepower and 6.1% more torque. So yeah, they did a decent job with the bump in economy. Direct injection and a lower CD (active grill shutters, front air dam) make a huge difference.

I think a lot of people get disappointed when a new model comes out, but it grows on them. Never thought id own a 05 and id die in my 02…nope, now its "ill die in my 05, someday ill have fun with another 95-04. Same as the new 4runners, not much are liking the new look…but in a few years people are gonna have em.

The new colorados still don't bother me. If someone wants it, let them get it. I love my toyota

The number of Tacomas sold with the TRD Off Road package (i.e. people paying extra $2000-3000 for the rear locker) and the widespread aftermarket support for suspension and armor belie your statement. Yes, Toyota spends $1 million per hour in hybrid powertrain development, but it also came up with electronic aids like A-Trac and KDSS around the same time.

In the end, Toyota makes decisions based on sales, not fuel economy numbers. Toyota has openly stated that the Tacoma's healthy sales prompted them to keep the existing formula with the next gen. Notice Toyota also dropped the Taco Regular Cab and Tundra V6 for 2015, the most frugal configs for each model.

Have fun. I'll admit I'm a bit of a chevy hater because I've never had luck with one. I've also heard, third party, that chevy is still exposing the box steel to the road trash from the rear wheels without a good deadening or softening material, meaning gravel and loose surfaces not only damage the boxes but make lots of noise as stuff bounces off the box.

Funny you posted that. I was talking with my friend this weekend who has a very nice RAM 1500. It has a TON of killer features I was simply blown away with.
    To quote the article....
The air suspension on it is amazing. The ride is simply sublime. He even has a button on the key fob that when you hold the unlock button it lowers the truck so it's easier to get in. The RAM Box in the sides of the bed are extremely convenient too. They have a light in them which is something I didn't expect. You can also fill them with ice because they have a drain plug at the bottom. The interior was extremely impressive too. His was a 5.7L Hemi but if you could get one just like it with the EcoDiesel that would be VERY nice.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my Tacoma. But I was more than a bit jealous of the features in the RAM.

    Pretty chuckly. :D
But my wife and I do a lot of eldercare.
Something like that is quite handy for getting older folks or mobility impaired folks in the truck.

I like my 2008 Taco as it is a good example of a 2008 truck, but the market is moving on.

This is probably the best way I've heard it put by anyone. But I'd make one change and say 2005 instead. Mine is a 2009 TRD Sport and it is exactly the same as the 2005 TRD Sport....and also the 2015 model too. Ten fucking years and no real changes. The Tacoma is a stone tablet. It's resiliant and it gets the job done because it's damn near unbreakable but it's so old it was built in what seems like a completely different time.

Just so we are clear, when the 2nd gen Tacoma was introduced, we had to wait almost 3 years before the first smart phone hit the market. Let that sink in. ;)

Do you guys follow The Fast Lane Truck on youtube? I was notified today by my youtube account that they just uploaded a video comparing the Tacoma, Frontier and Colorado... unfortunately though it was pulled immediately. I'm listening to it on my phone right now but can't link it to you guys since it's not showing up at all on their channel.

I think someone jumped the gun on their NDA lol

I'm still very surprised at how close GM is playing there cards to there chest right now. It doesn't bode well for the performance of this truck if they are waiting to release comparisons until after the truck has fully launched. That's the kind of tactic the relies on rumored hype to boost presales over factual hype.

If GM thinks the mid sized market is small potatoes, why worry about NDA's? It's not like it's going to sink your product to drum up extra hype if your product looks great. A wise marketing manager who has a potentially superior product should already be quietly leaking direct physical and driving comparisons between the Colorado and other trucks through third parties.

I looked into the Canyon/Colorado trucks before buying my '14 in August. Chevy prices on their smaller trucks is a much more than a comparable model Tacoma.

Access/Extended cab 4x4 starts out at $25k on Toyota and $27.5k on Chevy.

that's because there will soon be a 10k$ rebate on it with 0% financing for 72 months, and a blow job in the back from the sales guy - just to move that chevy.

Regardless of how BIG the market is, domestic manufacturers have a severe advantage due to the light truck tax that the government has placed on imports. However, they've been failing so miserably that they haven't really taken advantage of it. They could price more competitively or offer more value for the same price as imports; yet still yield higher profits. Why it's taken them this long to figure it out is beyond me...
