Deep Water Fording Mods

I've always loved the fact that with the turn of a lever Marine HMMWV's can ford deep water with relative ease. I was only a driver and aside from the switch disengaging the main cooling fan, and diverts the intake function to the snorkel. As side from that I have know idea what that little switch did.
So to the point of this post...
To anyone's knowledge is there any system like this that is available on the market for the Tacoma. I don;t go looking for deep rapid moving bodies of water to cross with my truck but if the need should arise I would prefer not to have to swim out.

 

Just get a snorkel and run with it full time. I also switch to an electric fan with a switch.

also make sure you extend the breathers for diffs, tranny etc

 

Your tacoma will NEVER be fully water resistant even with a snorkel and/or diff breathers.

H1's were designed for that and every aspect of the vehicle was designed for deep water fording. I'm referring to electronics, electrical system, bearings, cooling, and tons of other things I can't even think of. If you go too deep in your tacoma, you run the risk of ruining stuff that weren't designed for it.

i think the best mod i've found for this is towing around a mobile bridge with me.......

seriously though a snorkel and electric fan and extending all breathers as high as possible is about all you can do. i still wouldnt chance it unless its really necessary though. just remember anything about the bottom door sill and your probably gonna have water inside the truck to.

Seriously...... I'm not a fan of snorkels and don't know how well they work. That probably all depends on snorkel design and how well they're installed.

I've wheeled for many years and have seen a lot of trucks/jeeps take deep water holes and get hydrolocked pretty easily. As soon as you sink that front end anywhere near the airbox, you're screwed. If the truck stalls - DO NOT turn the key!!!!!!

So - a snorkel might prevent that. I dunno...

But for everything else, like bearings, & electronics, ECU...etc... Even if you carry insurance, its not always quarenteed you will be covered if you total your rig due to a bend rod in the engine.

Trust me I understand that I bought a truck and not a submarine. It's just that in the last two years the area i live in had suffered two very nasty storms which resulted in thigh deep water over several main roads. I traded high and stock fordablity when I sold my F-250. I also understand the danger of washed away roads since a blazer attempted to use one of the roads I refereed to and managed a pretty go impression of a Hipo in a hole that proved to be fifteen feet by nine after the waters receded.
I look at a ford system just like I look at a winch, 4 high, fire extinguisher or even my pistol. It is much nicer to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
