That was the last machine I used. Sold it to a buddy. The only thing. Set it at 3 and it would over heat in about 15 mins

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
1/4" is pushing the limits of it really i would only go up to 3/16th with flux with a 140 1/4" is doable but it's not going to look good you will need a few passes to make it strong.

not hot enough? Looks like you need to let the puddle get bigger.

You are on the right track but consistent and being comfortable is the key to TIG. Your heat input looks good but remember when you add filler you are cooling the puddle down, so if you slow down a bit and watch how the puddle is reacting then your welds will improve. Lots and lots of practice is what it will take; and it really is a feel for how you add the filler, don't be jerky about adding it try to find a consistent feed rate and travel speed that you are comfortable with.

I wouldn't try walking the cup yet. You need to just be doing stringers for a while until you have the practice of adding filler. That's like trying to run 7018 uphill the first day you pick up a rod.

A clevis is usually solid material. 3/4" or 1" to maintain strength.
    How's this one constructed?

I asked cause I see weld going back to the bumper. In a 3/4 or 1 inch piece, no need for tubing.

I'd be worried about the lack of meat on the bottom side. And I have a contract with chassis unlimited for the 8" X 2" X 1" recovery points with two 3/4" drilled hole. Love them

so i have a short bed and sometimes haul a 4 wheeler, but would like a tool box. so i thought if i could build a triagular tool box i could drive the front wheels up on the box and still fit the 4 wheeler in the bed with an extender. i thought i could do the frame out of 1"x1" 3/16 angle (or 1/4 if recomended) and then maybe either some 1/8" steel and weld everything up, or bolt sheet alluminum to it and use liquid nail or something to seal it up (i have no access to alluminum welding equipment) anyway if it was 17-18" tall (to where i could secure it to the bed rail) and 24" long, it would give me about a 38* incline which i feel would be safe to drive on (much less steep than the ramps used to load the wheeler) i'd also add more angle braces where the front wheels would rest. i would only make it as wide as the bed in side the wheel wells so as not to get too complex. in this crude depiction the blue is a shock and the tan could be an extra shelf maybe its just a thought. any thoughts or suggestions

So... I have access to my college welding shop for a final project. They have welders, torches, saws, etc. They DO NOT have a tube bender. I have a winch waiting to be bolted on to Taco. Ideas on how to make a bumper without a tube bender? I was planning more on a tube bumper, but am open to a plate stye if I can keep the weight down.

Or if it seems too complicated I can weld up a high clearance rear bumper, but then winch will be really sad.

How would you stop the tools from sliding out? it seems like it would be a huge pain to use tools if the truck was leaning back at all, like say on a boat ramp or offroad.

Maybe just weld a little raise on the shelves?

well then main shelves would be parallel to the truck bed as in a normal tool box, the additional shelf on the lid might have to be enclosed and compartmentalized for small things like nuts/bolts, bits and wreches and socets or something small like that and i may not put it in there.

sorry, not a tacoma, but there is one in the 1st pic.
nothing fancy, but here is the rear bumper i changed to kinda high clearance to get rid of the dent in the bed.

    trk1.jpg
    trk2.jpg
and the front bumper i'm currently building to get rid of the bent up stock one.
has receiver tube built in behind the lic plate, will have hella micro de fogs(converted to hid), and i have some kc slimlites to put in front of the grill.
    may eventually do headlight/grill hoops.
will be doing sliders/steps after this. (and bigger tires)
