Eagles and hawks and falcons, oh, my! :goingcrazy: Fall migration has definitely hit MT. I was camping in an area that I usually see a hawk or two "playing" on the air currents as the wind crests over the ridge line of the mountains. Well yesterday and today I saw over twenty birds within a two mile stretch of road. The air space was getting a little crowded too...this morning there were 4 or 5 at a time gliding in this one area and two of them kept getting blown around and running into each other. Then they'd screech and circle around one another - guess that must be eagle road rage :notsure:

    Working on pics now... :typing:

Yes we got a little snow last week - I can imagine that some mountains got that much. I was surprised that the area I was in (8000+ elevation) was pretty much snow free. I was in Glacier National Park last weekend and it was beautiful - sunny, in the 70's...! Well Monday night it snowed - one of the areas I was camped in got 4-6" So glad I missed that!

not sure what these guys are - maybe dark eyed junco? grey/tan back, ivory chest with pinkish orange patches on either side, slight black mask over the eyes.

Nice ones! Love seeing hawks soaring like that. And the colliding ones, too, so crazy!
First one is a Red-tailed Hawk
    Second is a Swainson's Hawk
    Third is a Swainson's Hawk
Fourth photo, I can't tell
I'm thinking Dark-eyed Junco, as well.
Looks like it was a fun trip!

Sorry for the crappy picture. Photography doesn't really mix with dog walking...

Anyway, believe it or not, this is a Flamingo.

It looks like this Wikipedia photo:

I might go back and see if I can find it. It's been in the Baylands for a while. Someone asked me about it a couple of weeks ago and my response was along the lines of "are you high?". These are definitely not from this area.

I was gonna say...are flamingos native to CA? Wonder if it was somebody's "pet" or on a game farm type place....

    LOL. Definitely not native.

I did find this so a bird has been here before. And again in 2013.

Huh, so bizarre! I'm surprised that no one's claimed it as an escapee. Maybe no one wants to accept the responsibility.

I wouldn't know if it's the same bird. You're looking at a five year span-but flamingos have been known to live for a long time-so maybe.

This heron hasn't moved in a whole year....think there's something wrong with him? I originally spotted him on 9/22/13 and he has been in the same spot during several of my Yellowstone trips. I didn't realize that when I saw him today it was one day shy of a year of my original sighting!
I can understand that if there was a nest and little chicklets running around they'd want to stay in one spot but nesting season is pretty much over - why would he still be so adamant on staying right there?

The tree provides protection, most likely. Looks like there might not be many trees, so they all pick their own and defend it as their territory. Fishing's probably good, too

Got some good backyard birding in this weekend!
We had a first in our backyard. Townsend's Warblers. Unfortunately this was the best photo I got 'cause I had to get my camera out and then put the 400mm lens on and then run downstairs to get to a good window to see them and then they were gone shortly after.

From then on I kept the camera set up with the screen out of my second floor window and got some good shots looking out.
    Such a Wrentit :p

It was a bust out at the Baylands. All I saw was a bunch of ducks in the pond. Oh, and a nice Night Heron...flying a pond over and away. Just out of reach.

I did get this BIF though.
