2012+ Winch Mount Bumper Development

Is the factory bumper covered installed correctly in your pics? Why does it look like the fit is different when looking at the area on each side of the winch mount? I circled the areas i am comparing. I also drew arrows showing what looks like different size gaps between the winch mount and the bumper cover.

 

Take a few minutes and read through the thread... lots covered here. The cover we used for mockup in the last pic was pretty flimsy. We based the measurements off of good covers and forcing the POS cover in to place. When we tested the last bumper it was more to check other dimensions that related to the winch, drainage and other things. It's a CAD design and is symmetrical in shape so it will fit the same one side as the other... if your cover isn't busted up like our POS.

I would like to know this as well. I have Matt's skid waiting to be installed but I really want this bumper now that I have seen it installed (knew that was going to happen!).

Now if you are talking about the TRD skid plate, that may be a different story. As for a light bar, probably not, but Brad does have mounts welded that hold the sirius 2" lights on each side. I am sure you can make something work!

Having installed the winch mount on my truck, you will likely not want to mount anything other than 2" LED lights, rather than a bar. The biggest reason is the access to the winch clutch. With a light bar all the way across, it would be no bueno.

 

Yup, agreed. I fit some 4" Rigid E2 mini bars on either side and still have easy access to the winch. Don't think you could get any longer ones in there without modifying the included tabs and having small hands to access the winch.

 

Now I'm confused. I have the aftermarket aluminum OEM Toyota skid, it's not TRD and it's not the stock black one either. It's a silver powder coated aluminum one. Can anyone confirm if that skid plate will fit with this winch?

That's the same one I'm asking about in the pic. But I could swear I have seen a similar third skid with the actual "TRD" letters stamped directly into the front of it, unless it was just a TRD decal that someone had put on. I think the skid was even black with big bold colored TRD letters.

I'm loving this bumper winch. I don't like the gap on top so sub'd to see what everyone does for lights or what have you!

 

I really don't think the aluminum one in the dual pic above, that I'm talking about, is a "TRD" skid plate. It doesn't have the TRD letters on it anywhere. Also when you look up information about buying one online it doesn't reference TRD anywhere, just "Toyota OEM" skid plate. Don't TRD accessories all have the letters "TRD" on them?

 

It's a TRD skid plate because it comes on the TRD's
The letters were done by a member on here who makes them out of steel I believe.
They are basically identical

 

Those skid plates don't automatically come on TRD trucks though. My 13' is a TRD OR 4x4 and didn't come with that skid. It's an accessory that you have to add on top of the TRD packages just like the bad mat.
