I understand what the car rag says - but Toyota is not LIMITING production, just simply saying that they aren't expecting to sell more than 7500 of the pro models.

I promise you if you walk into a dealer you can order a pro configured however you want it, it's simply an option package - and I promise you if 7500 sell you will be able to buy the 7501st copy of it.

Toyota has not once said the pro models will be limited to "X" number per model, nor have they suggested there will be a limited quantity. I am quite certain if Toyota could sell 100k Pro models they would.

 

There is however a pre-determined number of MY 2015 Tacomas that will be made period. They have already pre-ordered X amount of paint in various colors, various wheels, grilles etc for example. I can bet that there is an actual limited number of these trucks to be produced during the balance of this final year of production.

As cool as the TRD-Pro is, it is a niche vehicle. I would imagine, most of the TRD-Pros's are being built to use up the overstock of Sport hood scoops, and remaining FJ & TX Baja wheels.

 

It would be nice (but not going to ever happen) if they had an overstock sale of scoops and wheels like that. But then it would make it that much less cool to have a scoop or the wheels.

 

I don't evn agree with that - Toyota is not going to stop production on their 329kth truck if that truck is built in january. Now like any sales driven organization they have a forecasting procedure, and that process helps the estimate how many trucks they will need to make, and even in what packages they will be ordered in.

Unlike a car like the Lexus LFA where Toyota motors was very clear, only 500 would be made, that's not what is happening here with pros - they would make every tacoma a pro if they could sell them, as the margin is much higher.

 

yes, I actually prefer it to the inferno - the inferno red has quite a bit of orange in it and it's a single stage non metallic paint - te barcelona red looks great clean and shines well in the sun - unfortunately it's not a unique color and was used on a billion other toyotas also

believe me I've heard it a thousand times - man why didn't you buy the URD super charger, it has better power and is the same price, man you could have bought a base model and spent only 300$ and had a truck WAY more capable...

blah blah, from my perspective I bought the truck I wanted, I hit a deer two weeks after I bought it so I bought an aluminum All Pro bumper, put sliders on and everything on the truck is under warranty and will do 99% of the offroading that my buddy in his H1 does, so i'm happy with it and that's all that matters...

I did the math, it was MARGINALLY cheaper to start with an SR5 by the time you accounted for wheels and tires, and then if I had any problems toyota could look at me and say "yeah, all those aftermarket parts, that's where your vibration is coming from"....

 

I was a little confused when I was looking also. On the different packages that was offered, there were many things I didn't like or needed on those packages.

I chose to go with a base with the SR package. I will upgrade the tires and wheels and add a bolt on hitch and floor mats when I first get the truck.

I also have the option of a rear camera for cheap since it will most likely be pre wired, but I really don't think I will do that. But it is an option.

If your handy, resourceful and have the time, you can save quite of few bucks by building exactly what you want.

Like the SR5, when you buy the sr5 you have to get entune plus. That's an extra 600 for satellite radio that I don't need. I don't need Lumbar support, or fancy leather around the shift nob. The list goes on. Choose wisely my friend and get what you need.

 

nope, only in the rear. The fronts are 60mm though, substantially upgraded from the stock OR shock.

The Baja/Pro definitely rides nicer than the Off Road trucks do, and although Toyota doesn't say anything about it - it just isn't as bumpy or jarring to drive.

I didn't get what I needed, I got what I wanted - in fact if they had an upgraded option for factory leather, power seats, heated/cooled seats, etc - I'd have gotten that too.

The logic with getting the SR and adding stuff has never made sense to me, if I wanted another race car or car to tinker with I wouldn't start with a NEW tacoma anyway - If I were building a rock crawler or 4x4 survivalist rig, I wouldn't even use ANY year tacoma

I had a 9 second supra, and I can't tell you the number of times I heard guys say "bah, I could go faster for far less..." Yes, you could, but you'd have a crappy as fox body mustang

As someone who is more than capable of building every piece of hte tacoma from the ground up, I chose the Baja because I didn't want to - Would I like a tiny more lift, and 35s, yes, and I may do that eventually, but the 33s on the 2" baja lift makes this truck CRAZY capable. My only complaint is I felt like the stock sized BFG All terrains were a weak choice on Toyotas part, so I did 255/85 mudders, got up to a 33, and love it. I'd love to see toyota put 33x12.50s on the Pro's with proper fitment, that would make that truck seriously BA

It's comical how some people insist on buying a low budget base model and then throwing in blistein 5100 or Toytec suspension will make it like a TRD Pro.

 

Ummm... Have you ever seen the Inferno in real life??? It is most likely a base coat clear coat like almost every car that has been painted in the last 20+ years and it has so much metallic it looks like a 1970/80's Bass boat under the sun. I would be curious to know what other Toyotas it has been used on in the past would love to see a few photos.

 

Zmw- I completely understand your logic, and obviously you have experience with this kind of thing, but some can't afford to buy the PRO or Baja and just be happy that that because of how much extra they cost. Building one up can equal as much as a factory warrantied Tacoma, but it can also be much less and still fit the needs/wants of the buyer.

Do many people actually say that? I think if someone did build up and want it to be equal to a pro, they will get top of the line parts and install them themselves. I would.

 

Local dealers are not even taking orders for a 6 speed. I have covered NorCal to Ohio.

Yup you could spend less getting a base truck but having the truck ready to go wheeling straight from the factory is a great idea. If I was going to pick up a new truck it will be a while till I start modding it. That's the only reason why I would go with a pro and that inferno color is unique and looks sexy. Got mines on order. Should have it by next month hopefully.

I'm starting the hunt today for a Toyota Pro Inferno (AC or DC). I am flexible with a DC or an AC. I know they are different, but they each have their pros/cons and I could live with either. Although, aesthetically, I like the AC.

I always knew I'd get a Tacoma, very excited.
