I will say this, I had two ZR2 S10s that I loved, and one ZR2 blazer, those things were fantastic, and that 4.3L V6 was pretty damn good even then.

The 4X4 Colorado does not get better GPM's that the Tacoma. The Chevy is rated at 18 city and that is what I get in my DCSB 4X4 Tacoma with larger AT tires, the Colorado has highway tires.

Tacoma is taxed as an import even though it is built in Mexico just as the silverado is?

Well in that respect I can compare them quite easily... my TRD/OR rear leaf spring pack was squeaking like a son of a bitch in 5000 miles and still squeaks today.

No, the Tacoma is not a taxed import. Any monetary manufacturing advantage or disadvantage is not a result of import taxation on the Tacoma. The "Chicken tax", Wikipedia that if you need to, only applies to certain light duty trucks and vans that are imported. NAFTA countries are exempt from the Chicken Tax, which specifically targets vehicles made in South East Asia. Hence the Tacoma and Frontier, which are made in North American NAFTA countries are tax exempt light trucks.

One of the reasons the Colorado took so long to come over here and the Ranger isn't still in North America is because of the "Chicken tax". Both of those trucks were first, and still are, manufactured in South East Asia and can not be imported into North America without being taxed even though the manufacturer is based in North America. Until GM retooled a North American plant to build the Colorado and revamped the truck too meet American safety and emissions standards for light trucks there was no way to make selling it in North America financially viable.

^It'll be interesting to see how the truck does on the mountain trails in Colorado. Funny how Nathan at TFL prefers the Frontier's seats over the Taco's. My experience was just the opposite.

Yeah, nicer knobs, quieter cab, and good on road characteristics are just a small part of what I want in a new truck. The more I look at that chevy front end the more I think this truck will be exactly like it's big brother. A great town truck but not quite up to the task of being pushed hard everyday.

From all the pics & vids I've seen of the colorado -it's a great truck ...except for one thing : GROUND CLEARANCE....
I off road on the beach alot....this truck is not for me...It would definitely need 2-3 " of lift in the front on day 1.....

Yeah, I'm taking it all as a joke until I see an actual towing test when they do their IKE Gauntlet review.

I was thinking of holding out and not getting a Tacoma and just waiting for the Canyon but I really want to see some first hand reviews showing how they handle power. I'd seriously give them a shot when if their 2.8L duramax was out... Towing power with 4 cylinder fuel economy sounds way too attractive to completely pass up without at least considering.
