Thinking about bitting the bullet

I went to the toyota dealership today and i got to test drive one a 2010 prerunner trd off road packages. It doesnt have 4x4, and i dont think i really need it since will mostly do local driving. I guess the only time i would really want it would be when i go to OBX but i just cant afford the extra 3000 dollars they are asking for the off road package. Gonna go back at about 4 or 5 to get paperwork process and see if i get approved..

 

^ if you ever plan on lifting your truck i'd say get the 4x4 over a trd anything. Trd is only the springs/shocks/wheels & tires......the saying is you wont regret ever getting a 4x4 but a 4x2...thats another story.

 

If you want a 4x4, get a base 4x4 over a TRD 4x2.

It will fetch more cash when you sell it too.

I love the stripped down 4x4s. All business.

 

^ agreed on the resale. Not only will a 4x4 sell for more but it will also sell ALOT faster.

 

Well i dont really need the 4x4, and i dont plan on lifting it. It will be bone stock, just will add aftermarket radios

 

I would imagine a base non "off road" 4x4 would be more "off road" capable than a 2 wheel drive that says "off road"

I'm old fashioned though.

 

Ultimately its your vehicle so whatever works for you

 

yeah still debating on it.. They even offered to push the first payment until feb so thats whats temping me because i was planning to buy it in march of next year so....

 

seats,bed outlet,pwr everything (compared to the base model 4x4),locker TRD OR, limited slip TRD Sport..."few more things than just shocks and wheels"

think about what you want and what you need. 2x4 guys will tell you to get what you need/ can afford. 4x4 guys will want to be hauled off in a 4x4 ambulance if they ever got injured

then there is the i would rather have it and not use it, than need it and not have it...or whatever.
these threads are a dime a dozen these days.

get what YOU need.

personally, i live in socal and have needed 4x4 0 times. and i couldnt talk myself into wheeling and beating the shit out of my brand new 4x4 haha but kudos to the MANY people who do wheel their trucks

Where is the info to back this up? Before I purchased my new 08, I looked at plenty used trucks. The 4x4s were always more expensive than comparable PreRunners...

 

...yea i dont know how the 4x4's would be cheaper UNLESS they had like 30-40k miles more than the pre runners

 

Well i bought a double cab 2010 magentic gray trd off road. Couldnt afford the payment for 4x4 but dont really need it. Plus i am very happy with it now. love my truck. my wifes crying because i have to get rid of the jeep but the miles are high on it haha.

 

Good thats why i never got a 4x4 because if i did i would want to take it off road. i take it to the ebach every now and then and i hav e a trd off road packge ... but i havent had to ever use the rear locker nor i have gotten stuck yet...

Had to get a 4x4 to get to work. When it snows at Mt. Charleston here, the Nevada Highway Patrol will often require chains on 2 wheel drives, or 4x4 with mud & snow tires. I don't want to use chains because they tear up tires when driven on very little snow, so I went the 4x route.
