I'm running a warn 9.0rc with synthetic line. Great winch. It's really nice having the wireless remote. The winch is super stout. Sheared off 6 d5 bolts while I was winching my feed truck out it's a expensive winch but we'll worth it in my opinion

Valvoline (or w/e it's spelled) synthetic, picked up 2 cans of it from vatozone and it's working well so far.

Only used the winch twice since, it's easier to unspool and it reduced the noise from spooling in. I'd say it works well.

Broke my synthetic winch line. I think I had it out to far when I started winching. Anyone know if I can put a new anchor on it or is it just done for

I didn't know you could take a synthetic line "out to far" other than the 5 foot the the line from breaking free from the spool. Although it does seem like the more line you have out the more torque you can get. Anyone more educated on this subject care to elaborate? I don't want to ruin my line.

You may be right. If so I have no idea how I broke it

This is how I installed my thimble. You can do the same thing on the drum end too.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q22wgYZL9f0

    Broke is pretty vague.

Where did it break? (at the drum, at the eye, 5' from the end, etc)
How did it break? (clean cut, braid seperated, previous wear made it weak)
How long is your line and how far did you have it out?
    What diameter is your line?
What brand line do you have?

I'm too skeptical about synthetic winch ropes, if I can use a snatch block I will.

I guess they don't do that here. I asked my buddy who works there. :(

Nope did it at Uwharre after I blew my rear diff. I used it about 4 or 5 times on that trip. The last time it broke. I never did stop and inspect what happened. Too many other things going on. So I'm as eager to look at it tonight as anyone else.

So I stopped and looked at my winch and line after work today. The anchor was still attached to to drum on my winch with no line in it. Looks like the line had pulled out I guess. dcf89036b1aee18290015c55970d14a7_74dd53564eddc3496411ccc0586a2a01b525631b.jpg8a3ed40ca87e16c5ccc7e69f0f68ac88_a78fa9482f791404a7cbf6d69ac8723fb430fd43.jpg

Here is the end of the line. Its very flat and smooth, like it maybe got hot
    62eef6c581f15bf3d71aa59da5b3c40c_f7d19ff81656549c6985daa5efeb052e55920e0d.jpga1a4cc5ad20f9b7b7b90109bfdb64d46_3ff0ef2c262d258901b0efb79b7b5ea297992289.jpg

This is about 6feet from the end. Look s pretty normal
    4ee869e3a3acb68d41c4c06f7fa6303e_af25d87df7eac93b0a4db56a34e86767e1a2ee8d.jpg613e7b675541a51b5a2ff86adb9dfe56_aaa4a49209db9db39e30882403ee8c04f89cd030.jpg

What do you think? Is it salvagable?

It looks like it should be fine. You may want to cut off what ever length looks damaged then fix it in the way that you want.

They probably just crimped that to the end. I have seen a few companies do that:

You can either add a new eye with something like this:

Or do something like warn has:
Part #76226 TERMINAL KIT (or "parts pack")
(item number 41 in the picture below)

It is basically a beveled puck that bolts to the drum. You make an eye with the synthetic line like in the video I posted and it wraps around the puck.

Any idea where I would find the new eye you posted?

The Warn setup looks a little more stout. I'll consider both
