Just thinking that with all the concern of having the blocks in the rear for the lift and the possible chance of having axle wrap, should i have the blocks taken out? How much of a concern is axle wrap?

Axel wrap can cause premature wear on your springs. If you have an automatic, it may make a "thump" sound when you come to a stop and let off the brakes.

Wow Chris- I've got that too, and it's done it since new and I thought it was the tranny not coming into 1st, because it happens if I stop more abruptly than usual. What's the cause?

i had axle wrap on my 06 prerunner, but that basically went away when i got the rear leaf tsb done. i guess it was the spring stiffness that made it go away. i have also heard traction bars help alot with axle wrap.

The leaf springs on the Tacomas are on the soft side of the spectrum. That being said ( please follow me on this) When power is applied to the tires, the torque moves your rear axel up a little bit causing the springs to twist like an "S" just not as dramatic. When you are at crusing speed the springs relax into their normal state. Now, when comming to a stop ( with an auto and below about 15 m.p.h. ) your engine is still trying to turn the tires and the differential is moveing up a little bit twisting the springs. When you are stopped and let off the brakes or ease off them, the springs unload and you hear the "thump". A small amount a axel wrap is not a bad thing and is normal on most Tacomas. It can be tammed with the addition of an AAL. Blocks will amplify the problem and as they move the fulcrume point where the axel mounts on the springs, thus leading to premature wear on the springs. In many cases if the block is poorly made, they can shatter, crack, or whatever and cause a big problem.:)

+1 I always thought my truck was just klunking into 1st. Now that you mention it, It really hasn't done it since the addition of my AAL. Good info, Chris.

I have a very little bit of axel wrap on my truck. Even with the TSB springs and my AAL. My AAL is a long thin one made just to give 3/4" lift and to help keep the truck level from side to side. Trac bars help if they are mounted correctly, but they can get in the way when off roading. :)

Axle wrap also.....when you stomp on the gas and the rear-end bounces around and doesn't stay firm on the road.

The traction bar I'm having built is purposely going to hang lower than the driveshaft to serve as protection. It'll have a skid on the bottom to slide over obstacles and keep the driveshaft out of harm's way.

Low isn't always a bad thing, depending on what it's just lower than. :p The trick is to design it so it doesn't affect articulation.

So as long as a guy keeps an eye on the blocks everything should be somewhat ok....?

Take a look at this link... I added this system to my truck as opposed to getting the TSB. Didn't want the stiffer ride from adding an AAL and didn't want to spend the $$$ for air bags. Did my first trip over the weekend pulling my trailer and it made a very big difference in handling. My trailer is 26' 5000# loaded with about 650# tongue weight.

This system works not just for towing but for daily driving as well. Also said to help eliminate axle wrap without sacraficing ride. I personally never noticed axle wrap but I did notice a difference (improvement) in ride once I added them.
