What's more of a cheat, trap bar or lifting straps?

haha touche. I don't think trap bar is cheating, but focuses more on quads. My quads are stronger than my hamstrings, so my hex squat # is higher than my traditional squat #

Trap bar isn't a real deadlift. I don't think they'd qualify it in comp haha.

If I'd had a pair of long pants on instead of shorts lol I'd have been using a straight bar!

had an argument with one of my gym bros

he's made pretty much no gains in the past few years, but refuses to change his routine

He blames it entirely on his diet. His argument is that if he gains weight, he'll gain muscle and be able to lift more; so he shouldn't have to change his routine at all, just eat more

my argument is that he'll just get fat, not stronger- unless he starts picking shit up in new ways; that the diet alone won't do the fucking work for him

this is the same guy that says that he won't front squat until he can backsquat 315+, and who does most of his workouts on cable machines

He's been working out for a year and has not reached his goal of 315? Not that its something to be ashamed of, but when it is a goal it shouldn't take that long. Does he go parallel or lower, btw?
Why wait until a certain back squat to do front squat?
I think some people don't realize how much time passes when things need to change. He probably hasn't actually realized that he hasn't made gains in a year or doesn't think its unusual yet

we started lifting in high school, and we're seniors in college now lol

he thinks he needs a "better foundation" before he moves on to different things; like he has to be able to backsquat 3 plates before he can "safely" do a front squat
thinks he should be able to DL 405+ before he stops DL'ing in running shoes

thinks stiff leg DL's are bad for you, thinks machine hammys are better
and that machine quad extensions are better than squats

refuses to listen to me, and only takes advice from youtube lifters haha

THEN REFUSES TO LISTEN TO THE YOUTUBE LIFTERS

    GURHAHAHAHGHGHGHHh
