Sounds like he's using an optical connection of some sort. I'd say USB but with any apple device we know that's not right. ;)

Yes, I will be using the iPure i-20 dock to get a digital optical sound signal for my audio processor. There are plenty of other basic docks out there that will work for this application which will give RCA outputs as well.

Sorry for the lack of updates. Painting something like this is something I hadn't planned on allocating the time or patience for, but I figured it's worth trying. Waiting on some nice sand paper that I ordered to make any more progress on it.

I hope you know that the iPads have heat sensors.. lol if it gets too hot it will notify us when we run the diag test. BUUUUT usually nothing will be done about it.

yeah, i've thought about that. will be interesting to see if how often that happens during the hotter months in CA. my truck will stay much cooler than most. window tint and insulation from hundreds of pounds of sound deadening helps a lot with that.

Great! cool I just wanted to give you a heads up! hahaha, it can ultimately mess with the OS. but its always fixable. jusdt a pain, and the small components, buttttt like I said, we don't do tooooo terribly much with temp sensor, unless its obvious heat damage hahah, it looks great though!!!

Okay, so after some setbacks I finally have some progress worth talking about. Painting this thing has been quite a learning experience but I think I've got it down, now. Here's how it looks right now.

I'm still going to sand it, clear coat, and polish it to get the gloss finish that I really want. Even after all this work, I'm gonna sell this one for cheaper than I would normally charge, since it's not exactly what I had in mind for a finished product, and the future models will be better.

Do you have to wait for the OS to boot every time the truck starts?

Thanks for the reply. Thats kinda what I thought since the OS boot up will be annoying. Interested but am contemplating it for situations where I dont drive my vehicle for a while.

yeah, i just threw away the dash piece after botching the paint for the 4th time. i already made another one and i'm having a friend at a body shop paint it for me in the morning. Also wired up the ipad harness tonight. steering wheels are working and I have a digital optical output from my ipad! very excited. should have the whole thing (minus the bluetooth, waiting on steering wheel interface from italy) up and running by the end of the week!
