Any of you guys have a super charger on your tacos?

If you do, can I ask what you guys have invested in the whole thing, parts and labor?

I'm debating about getting one on my truck. I don't plan on racing it or running over honda civics with cherry bombs (well at least not intentionally). I simply want some extra power, I notice when I'm driving up the hills from the valley to payson and up to the white mountains, there are some stretches of the highway that I have to hammer down the pedel and hit about 4K RPM to maintain speed.

I'm thinking if I'm hauling up some gear and maybe a small trailer or boat, the extra power would help me out.

Is it worth all the money?

Have you switched to taller tires? Regearing might help you more.

    PM Moose1988, he has boost.

As for 'worth the money' its something nobody can answer for you. Me personally spending that type of cash for 60-70hp isn't worth it because I'd want it to be fast. SC cash you can buy a sport bike and dust 90% of anything in the streets.

But if you need the power for wheeling, its the best route you can go IMO.

    It's the wife's T4R so it's stock
I'm blown with 4.56s and 285s... she scoots along pretty well, but it isn't a huge difference over stock. And every time you hear that supercharger whine, you know that you're getting shitty MPG

    herrrrrooooo....

first off, excuse my grammar, at work..

do i love my S/C... and ALL the other mods to support it.. yes... (it can get pricey, hence the "ALL")

is it worth it.. to me.. at the time, yes it was. i had the extra funds to blow..

but... if you think its gonna stop with JUST the blower.. might want to re-think it..

I got a SMOKIN deal on my Blower and installation.. so much so that i cant really say..

but.. then came the tranny upgrade to support the increase in torque and hard shifts from the S/C. then an upgraded fuel pump, then the gauges, and AFR sensor, then headers, exhaust (multiple exhausts).. luckily i already had the 2.8" URD pulley or else that would be something else to add.

is it fast.. for a truck with 33" tires.. yeah.. but dont think you'll be racing any beefed up Stangs or Camaros.. Z's.. and similar.. oh yeah.. other trucks.. OH YEAH. its fun, makes me happy everytime i drive it, gas mileage isnt too bad if you have self control (I got the best tank of gas since owning the truck with the blower on.. once) its all personal choice.. and if you can justify it.

honestly.. if you do the S/C.. add the 2.8 pulley ATLEAST.. adds another 1-2 PSI and really wakes up the TRD blower. also, you have more options than i do.. mine being an 09, the ECU is on lockdown basically.. no EMS.. for you though.. URD makes em.

you're more than welcome to drive my truck and see how you like it.. some people dont (shift kit) some people do. but.. I also have alot more than just the blower.. so keep that in mind, it wont be an equal comparison.

It really comes down to money you'll probably spend either way, so if you do it, don't look back and do it right the first time.

I'm running the URD S/C kit which was like $6k back in the day, so maybe a little cheaper now. Full cage and 35s with two full size spares but she can still go, will you beat a moderately modded car, no because its a car, but you'll probably be able to take most trucks for sure, especially if you didn't add another 1k pounds to the truck like some of us, either way its a blast to have, but you don't get/buy one with the intention of saving money on gas. That's like me saying I'm trying not to break anything by going lt

We sound like we're in the exact same situation... here's what I did.

Just purchased (June 2014) a 4.0L Supercharger at Camelback Toyota here in Phoenix and had it installed by them. Out the door price with parts, labor, coffee, and donuts... $6078.48.

Work took 2 full days and had one of their 'master techs' do the job. They did give me rental car for what it's worth.

Like you, I use my Tacoma for towing a light 17ft single axle travel trailer and I was tired of going slow up the hills to Flag or the Rim. Now with the SC... no problem. I'm not the slow guy on I-17 or SR-87. Plenty of extra power.

If it's just play money for you... go for it. You won't regret it. AZ hills will be a breeze... and 0-60 is pretty fun now too.
