Anybody with experience with the Kershaw Cryo 2? Looks like a decent EDC. Not sure about the blade being Chinese steel 8CR13MOV.

 

Nothing wrong with 8CR13MOV.

It isn't CPM154 or anything exotic, but it is great for EDC and easy to sharpen. Lot of hugely popular folders have the same steel.

Saw the Cryo 2 for sale for $35. Gonna hafta make the purchase. Understand it isn't on par with some ZT or BM, but doesn't cost nearly as much either.

 

Kershaw makes pretty good blades, and lifetime warranty I think? Anyhow, easy to sharpen also means easy to dull so don't figure you can cut cardboard all day and then shave your mustache. But it sharpens easy and quick, so no big annoyance.

China and Japan have steel figured out, also. I have a Spyderco Tenacious or similar model with 8CR13MOV and it is a great EDC folder for those reasons. Hit it a few times with a ceramic rod and you're sharpysharp again in 30 seconds.

Now been contemplating the Kershaw Blur. Think it is made in the US, steel is Sandvik 14C28N. Almost twice the price as the Cryo 2 though.

I better stop looking at more expensive shit, or I'll end up with a ZT.

 

So whats a good spring assist or switch blade in 3” or maybe 4” blade size, probably around the $40 rang + or - a little that would be good all around knife for every day carry? I’d like something probably black or a dark color.

I found out TN’s law changed back on july 1st and we are not limited on blade size and are legal to carry switch blades now.(before only LEO/EMS could own them and carry them) I had a spring assist but lost it 4 wheeling lol.

 

I'd get an assisted opener, switch blades and hard use don't mesh so well as far as I know.

SOG is in the budget.

 

You won't be disappointed. This has been my primary EDC for many years now and it's been fantastic. I keep buying/selling $500+ knives and coming back to it. It's not perfect but nothing is and at the price it comes awfully damn close... for my needs anyway.

 

Has a Blur a long time ago, can't think I'd spent more than $40 for it. Sandvik is great steel. Pretty sure I lost it hunting.

 

Have you tried the Ken Onion action on the Kershaw Blur? It's my personal favorite. I'll still sit there and flick it open & closed for hours on end like a small school child playing with his favorite toy.

 

Walmart has the Kershaw Blur w/Tanto blade for $57 regular price at most stores.

 

only think i have seen wrong with a switch blade is the lock did not work. but i don’t really care i just keep both of mine put up and never use them. my dad was a wildlife officer and he could have them so i have been around they a bit. I don’t really want to carry either one of the 2 i have. They have engravings /stamps on them.

I’ll look at SOG, the knife i carry right now is not spring assist or anything and i missing having one that was.

I switched to EDC fixed blades last year, but not a bad price. I wonder if they're any different than the model I had when I was younger.

I do have a Leek I picked up from Wallymart last year. I am timid to use it since the tip is so thin and pointy, I know it will snap off at some point. It sure opens quick, love using the flipper - its the only flipper I've ever tried.

 

I EDCd a SOG Trident Tanto for 6 years. I love that knife, a lot of sentimental love probably though. Half serrated and all black, I'd suggest checking it out.
I bought a SOG Flash II later for cheap online and it felt completely different to me. Really really lightweight in a bad way, like flimsy almost. Opened quick but just seemed cheaply constructed. I think I gave it to.my fiancé for her purse or maybe for hiking. Pretty positive it's gone now, anyway. But if you look at SOG, check out the Trident. I really loved it, hopefully still floating around somewhere.

 

I held a crkt m16 today at the mall and the guy who was probably only a year or two
Older than me so really a kid lol was trying to convince me to get some off brand knife for 10 bucks over the crkt m16 because he thinks there over priced for just a knife at 50 dollars. Me and my gf laughed because she knows how I like my knives and walked off. Before hand I picked his brain about what he has in stock. Never heard of opinel or spyderco. I won't be going back lol
