from what i see its rushing. i have a friend thats a pro welder and have been around enough to see how to do things right. you can control warping when welding, you dont need a killer gig to get it right. you have to take your time welding and do it right.

what it comes down to is the company making these didnt really count for his labor and how long it takes to weld correctly. bad business.

i made carbon fiber parts before and wanted to start a business.what i found out is that in order to make parts customers would buy(time involved) i couldnt make a profit.

if your a pro welder you can weld a tin can with no warping!!!!

the parts i saw look like crap and its from rushing.

I have one of eddys products which isn't really significant in "trail armor" but I've seen many of his products and I've never seen a single product he's put together look sub par. I can't speak for his "help" because I never saw his work. Other then the pictures some of you have posted. And you also have to remember that for a while eddy was doing this after he had worked all day long at his day time job. Not using that as any excuse for welds but he was working 10 hour days then coming home and building these products. I have seen his bumpers take abuse that most of your so called "offroad trucks" will never see driving around the mall. And for the person talking about slamming their 5000 pound truck into something and a weld breaking is just ridiculous

Must be nice to be able to see your parts being made!

I just saw this thread today. I placed an order for bolt-on sliders for my '08 DCSB PreRunner almost 2 weeks ago. Eddy told me that it would take 8 weeks. Since I have 2 vacations left this year I need to take them or I lose them, my plan is to take one first & do the 9 hour drive to pick up the sliders, install them, & then continue on to Beech Mountain, NC for a couple of days. I realized after I placed the order that I was giving Eddy a little less than 8 weeks so I moved the vacation up one week. I don't rush people & I don't haggle prices. I'm not saying that the OP did. I'm just stating how I am.

Eddy, I had a similar situation with a mechanic that you had with your PT welder. I am a manager at a Tire Kingdom Store in North Miami, Florida. A few years ago, I hired a master mechanic who had almost every cert in the book & came well recommended by a couple of people in the business. I made the mistake of solely trusting that & never checking his work. It bit me in the ass & I had to let him go.

I had a car catch fire 3 blocks away after leaving the store because of a simple wiring issue. The car was a POS but still no excuse for what happened.

A wheel bearing (with the brake caliper & wheel attached) come off of a Ford Explorer at 40MPH about 2 miles down the road after we did a bearing job because he didn't tighten the bearing & he didn't install the lock nut & cotter pin.

Everything he did was rushed though I never rushed him & that never has a good result. I fired him 2 weeks later after the investigation.

I'm not a mechanic myself but I know quality from crap but I trusted the fact that he had all of those certs. He talked the talk but he didn't walk the walk. I'll never, & haven't, made that mistake again. Sounds similar to what happened to you.

Oh and even my trail gear tube bumper that's massed produced by a very reputable comany came with a little imperfections. If you can't get over ordering a product from a guy working out of a one car garage slammed full of equipment and getting a few imperfections here and there then you shouldn't be ordering from him. I ordered my sliders from him because I like his design. He's on the east coast. A great guy that I've wheeled with a few times. And I like the fact of ordering from a small company. Would have ordered a front bumper from him if he made them for first gens. That is what America was formed on.

And hell he can weld 10x better than I ever could so why should I be picky and complain about his welds.

    Just saying

Haha I know I got my bumper in a week after I ordered it, and I really don't have any complaints other than a small fitment issue. It does it's job just fine. But with that said I may still end up getting eddy to make me something In the next year or so.

Almost anyone can make t-joint welds look pretty, but have you ever tried to weld tube? Bit of a pain in the arse when your jammed in a garage full of equipment and cant get a direct line on it. Not to say that those welds are justifiable by any means nor am I sticking up for the vendor, but let us know the day that they break: I'm pretty sure you'll have a shit ton of other things to worry about if your slamming the weight of your truck onto that tube. Just my 2cents, I'm out.

I see a lot of welding in my profession and the welds in those pics look pretty typical. Also powder will not cover everything, especially around welds, and corners. So in humid environments after some time, you will see some rusting. More likely from a good car wash in this case. I wouldnt really say this is the fabricators fault.

I ordered a 10ga skid plate from a vendor here and the thing got dropped so bad it flattened the metal in one corner. Shiz happens when heavy metal is getting thrown by shippers. I touched it up with spray paint, shimmed it with a couple washers. But in no way does that qualify as bad fab work, and these are not a left handed remarks towards the OP's. Just somethings to think about.

The purpose of these parts are to protect our vehicles and does NOT affect the operational safety of our rigs. I agree with what someone else said, if you want 100% perfect fit, drive to Eddys. The fact that he lets you come to his house alone, tells me he's good at what he does. The man lives there with his family (I'm guessing) and is trying to make a living by not having to report to the man everyday.

Eddy-I dont have any of your stuff on my rig as of yet but personally wish you all the best in your business venture. Dont let this get you down. Keep your chin up brother.........
