I need one of these. Fell in love with the whole entune thing when I was test driving a Highlander last week.

Done! Took a little more time since at the last minute I decided not to remove the clock module and go back with the original faceplate. Had the new unit pre-assembled, so I had to backtrack some.

Entune updated immediately. Took about 5 to download and 5 to install. GPS locked up and found my current location while still in garage.

Now, I only have one question. I had one plug on the back of the HU un-used. Anyone know what that is for?

It is unused for our units.

My suspicion is that that plug may be for the factory amp (i.e. JBL)?

I haven't see the back of a JBL unit, but in reality it should be a much simpler unit since it does not have a built in amp. Same inputs minus the powered speaker output i would think?

back of units are the same as far as i can tell.

So the question is... are the trucks just missing the appropriate plug and amps for JBL vs self powered Non-JBL

Makes you wonder if a non-gps unit is identical, less the gps receiver board. Plug it in and you've got a gps unit....... Plus knock out the blank on the front for the data card.

Just when I thought I had it all figured out............ What does one do who wishes to transfer their XM subscription to the new receiver? Is the 2014 unit XM ready? Since my 2012 has XM currently do I need an XM module for installation of the 2014 Nav HU? I really enjoy satellite radio and don't want to be without it for the sake of a GPS. Sorry about the basic questions but the more I research the more I'm confused on this subject. Thanks for the help!

XM is the smaller receiver that is located below the head unit. it has (i believe) three plugs that connect to the head unit. It is the part below the HU in this photo and is connected with wires to the HU.

If you have the XM receiver already you'll just need to connect the existing receiver to the replacement NAV head unit as shown below.

in short, yes you keep your current XM receiver and subscription.

EDIT: after researching the 2012 HU, I wonder if the XM receivers connections are the same. No way I'm reading 40 pages to see if anyone has covered this yet. Didn't affect me so honestly doesn't concern me. LOL just the cold hard truth.

so toyota finally changed them this past year...interesting.

all of the older models where a different plug completely.
then that jbl system should work fine on a non jbl tacoma without an amp and sub (if toyota wired everything differently like the non jbls)

provided the JBL head unit has an internal powered amp. It has the plugs (most likely part of simplified manufacturing) but does it have the power???

Thanks for the help. The couple members with 2012 trucks and the 2014 HU that I have contacted don't use XM so I haven't gotten very far. I really do appreciate the input.
