Limited Service Campaign for Corrosive Resistant Compound

That sucks, I'd think that if a part breaks while they are taking it out or off they (Toyota) would replace it for no charge, it's not your fault the frame needs replaced and things could break while be taken apart... I know I'd not be paying for any part that they try and charge me for...

 

I asked my dealer to do an "unofficial" inspection when they changed the oil a couple of weeks ago. I did not want to do the official inspection, have it pass, and end up with a poor after-the-fact rustproofing application, and I planned on waiting as long as February 2016 for the inspection to increase the chances of it failing. Luckily for me, it failed now, and I look forward to having the frame replaced. My 2005 4x4 DCLB has about 120k miles.

I am wondering what other work owners are planning on getting done when the frame is replaced. I assume they will be replacing the brake fluid and coolant as part of the swap.

The bilstein shocks have about 80k miles since they were replaced as part of the TSB, so I was thinking of having them replaced. I am hoping to get a set of low mile take-offs that I hand off to the dealer, so there should be no extra cost.

Other than that, I was thinking of getting the hoses and belts replaced, but that's it. My dealer said something about replacing the steering box, but I am not inclined to do that. They said they would call after the dissassembly with a list of recommendations based upon what they discover.

Any suggestions on other maintenance that would be practical to do now as part of the frame swap? Any other maintenance they are likely to do besides the brake fluid and coolant?

 

Anyone know if they have addressed this issue with the '14 and '15's? I was really looking forward to buying a new Tacoma but after reading all these frame rust issues I'm not so sure now.

 

My truck is getting the recall, finally got to the dealer and ask what gets done. Well the collision company doing the frame basically told me just the frame and attachment points.no brake lines and no lead springs as shown in the pics.

Does anyone have a cleaner copy with some reference numbers?

The minute I show that to them they are going to ask where it came from.

 

Go to a Toyota dealership. They should have a list of included components. Brake lines among others, and the LSC from Toyota states "free of charge".

 

Well, I finally heard back from Toyota about some sort of warranty on the frame after the service campaign is completed, which there is no warranty if something happens to the coating or the new frame. Once you have had the service campaign done, that's it.

 

Well my truck should be done today... Just have to align it and test drive it... also tools me i could have my old frame if i wanted LOL.. Don't think i want it though...

 

Wow I need to take mine in soon! My frame looks ten times worse than yours, although I can't find any actual "holes" in it. Was planning on waiting as long as I could, hoping there would be some that show up by the time I actually took it in to get the inspection. I'm not really liking this whole coating business they are trying to pull...

 

Or anyone know what the newest Tacoma with rust so bad the frame was replaced?

 

In 2009, I believe, Toyota contracted a different company to make the frames. The old manufacturer was Dana and had a faulty rust proofing process. Some frames got rust proofed, some got poor rust proofing.
I've checked mine several times since I bought it, and all I've found was surface rust. But we shall see when I take it in for inspection. (7 Wisconsin winters)

 

I didn't do my home work & purchased a 2009 Toyota Tacoma, I really like the truck, the nicest looking truck on the market. Had I known about the rust issue I would have looked else ware, Mine, a 2009, 30k,has spent its life in MN. driven little in the winter, sets in a garage many would envy, Truck still looks great, until you look under it, it looks like it was used as a anchor for the Queen Mary, A lot of Rust, & not just oxidation this is junk yard rust. The only other issue I have is the lack of power, this V6 is really a weak engine, that gets poor mileage, But it is the rust thatwould have been the deal breaker, jmop

 

"Some frames got rust proofed, some got poor rust proofing." That's interesting. What do you base this on My '08 seems 2 B good but I've been treating it every year. Are you doing anything to protect your frame in Wisconsin ? Thanks for any reply.

 

They contaminated the tank with the rust proofing by not washing the frames after machining and welding. Trying to save money and time I suppose
I did not know about the frame rust issue until about a year ago, so nothing proactive. I have always under flushed my vehicles several times a year. This seems to have been good for mine. Or maybe I got one of the good ones

 

I guess we both got a good one some how At some point the dip must not be contaminated so some trucks luck out.

I park on a gravel driveway at home, after it rains it takes forever to dry out. I also spend a lot of time at the beach parking in a sandy/dirt driveway which has me thinking this thing would just disintegrate lol. My 02 Dakota's frame is still in pretty good shape but all my brake, power steering and tranny lines completely rotted out and had to be replaced.

 

Still fighting toyota about mine and the additional charges they claim I'm responsible for on the stuff that gets broken whether good or not when its disassembled. Not liking the way I'm being treated at this time, planning to send a complaint in to our attorney general next week.

 

That is why I am going to wait a year or so and get closer to the deadline before having mine inspected by Toyota. I see a lot of 05 and 06's getting frames, but my 07 looks a lot worse than that one getting a frame in the pictures, but we can find no actual perforations yet. I wish my frame looked as good as that one that got cut up and removed.

 

My 07 frame is way worse than that one.

 

I use CRC 3-36 on all of my tools, vise, etc... in my backyard shed to combat rust from condensation (the shed doubles as my cigar lounge in the winter months and I use a propane heater). I wonder if spraying down the frame w/ 3-36 once or twice a year would do anything....

 

Anyone who didn't get new rear springs with your frame, bring it back
