Bought Taco completely stock on 7/25/09. Making the adjustment from my previous truck a 04 Dodge Ram HEMI quad cab 4x4.
I know there are a lot of threads about UCA's but it seems these companies continue to turn out improved models or whatever. I'm seriously thinking about buying some Camburg UCA's. I'm looking to hear what your experience and thoughts are on your Camburg UCA's the more recent the purchase the better.
Please only respond if you have or have had Camburg UCA's. I'm wanting to know if they give enough adjustment for alignment after a 3" lift, if they make noise (how bad/loud), and how often if ever you need to grease or oil or what ever sort of maint. you need to do on them.

    Thanks!

I have Camburg UCAs (latest model). I only have one picture of my truck clean..

They have a very nice position when sitting/resting, some UCA models are higher (so they sometimes hit when full compression, especially if you remove your swaybar, and some models sit too low so they can rub on your springs at full droop. MIne are perfect and never touches anything.

    Compression:

(some) Droop.. don't have time to fully search my pictures:

I absolutely love them. the balls make some noise after a day of wheeling where there is water/mud, but you onlt have to WD-40 the cups and it goes away instantly (this tip was given to me by Camburg, some people swear by not using WD40). Aside from that, they never make any noise (and the ball noise is a 5 seconds fix).

The UCAs don't offer adjustment for caster as it's built in the LCA attachment points. You'll probably read replies here that will tell you the only good UCA is total chaos, but if you go on ttora where everyone wheels their trucks probably more than people here, lots of people have the allpro, camburg and icon UCAs.

I was able to get my alignment close tot he most forward setting for caster. I won't get into alignment details as it will start a fight on this thread that will likely ruin the rest of the content.

The UCA have zerks for greasing the busings so it makes it a very simple process.

Oh, did I mention it gives very good articulation (note that I have extended travel coilovers so I get some more than regular setup).

^^^ have you tried lubricating the cups above the balls, mine stops being noisy 5 seconds after.. and only becomes noisy if I wheel in a wet area (i.e. water crossing, mud, etc), never on the road

Not to mention your grease zerks are straight down instead of at a right angle, which make them a bitch to lube.

really weird because I have the exact same setup as you and afaik it doesn't touch, I'll double check later today...

If mine doesn't touch, there is a problem somewhere in your setup.

and for zerk fitting, seriously it's nothing if you want to change them, sure it's a small hassle but if really you grease them so often you complain about them being straight, I'd just swap the fittings.

i dont fall into this catagory, but its a public forum so here goes!

have you looked into light racing UCAs from wheelers? they are only 450 and have adjustments built into the arm. many people have had great experiences w/ them correcting and adjusting alingments...just a thought.

OP did not distinguish between ball joint or uniball UCAs in his original post. her was concerned specifically with...

the LR UCAs have great alignment adjustment, dont make any noise, dont need any maintenance, etc...so they fit the bill perfectly.

just trying to give him a cheaper option as one really only need new UCAs for alignment, or for ext travel...of which im sure the OP just needs an alignment w/ his no downtravel 3" lift...

Not to hijack the thread, but I'm very curious to see how the OP came to the decision to choose Camburg as his first choice of aftermarket UCA. I could understand going with several different UCA's for various reasons:

    1. Total Chaos because they're the most popular on here and TN.
    2. Icon because they're the most expensive and some people equate the higher cost with being the best (plus they have the cool/bling factor).
    3. Light Racing because they're the cheapest solution.

I just would be interested to see why Camburg makes the cut for the OP. This will help me broaden my horizons. :)

i would choose camburg for the fact that its pretty much the exact same thing as the TC just a bit cheaper, and camburg makes very good parts why would this be any different?

pretty much the same thing, but not exactly the same. it has been noted in numerous threads that the camburgs (dont know if they fixed it) do NOT correct alignment w/ 3+ lift, whereas the TCs did.

this is something else to consider OP if you were not aware of this.

    This is f*cking bullsh*t

I have 3.25" lift and alignment is perfect

if one person did not get it aligned doesn't mean they don't allow correct alignment,

First, let me thank everyone for their input! You've all been really helpful!

Now let me answer a couple pretty valid questions and for the record I didn't take any offense or ill will from any of the questions. All were valid and helpful.
I think this quote from DrRabbitFurHead sort of addressed most of the questions asked so I'll use it. But If I've forgotten something let me know.

I think Dr nailed the points about how he listed how most of us look at our choices. I never considered the TC UCA's because of their price. I also didn't give much consideration to the Icon's for the same reason, out of my price range and I'm probably not that kind of off road driver that needs that kind of equipment. I stick mostly to Forestry Roads because I'm too afraid of hurting my expensive truck! :D
So I looked into the Camburg's and Light Racing because of their pricing and seemed they would correct any alignment issues caused by the lift kit. I only intend on ever lifting my taco 3" no more. I finally settled on the LR UCA's because they were a little less expensive and I'd read a few threads on them with some pretty happy TW members commenting about their LR UCA's.
However, I came across a good deal on some purchased but never installed Camburg UCA's. This lead me to wanting to get some opinions from those who own them about their thoughts and if any of them would state they would get something different next time.

Basically, I'm on a budget and trying to do the best I can with it. But didn't want to buy some Camburgs just because I found a deal but have been better off with the LR.

Now ya'all now where I'm coming from. Feel free to chime in again!

I think if you don't wheel much (or at all if it's only trunk roads) then get the cheapest option, i.e. the deal on new camburgs, or otherwise pay the lowest msrp which is the LR.

    as easy as that.

well, looks like my ball joint UCAs ultimately helped the guy purchase them...:D

no need to curse...and i said numerous threads, not just one guy. one of those numerous threads was from a well respected guy over on TN, he knows what he is talking about.

    and 3.25" lift....must be a nice ride :frusty:...dot downtravel:rolleyes:

i dont even have LR UCAs:confused:... and i never said they were the best thing since sliced bread or that they are even the best on the market. for the average guy that is simply trying to correct his alignment w/ his 4" spacer lift, they are a good buy. i too know that ball joints will have less travel than uniballs, that obvious (that also puts me in the 99% of knowledgeable people, right?!). i simply suggested this to the OP as he didnt really say anything about wheeling, but correcting alignment.

again, for the average daily driver kind of guy that has a 3" lift and drives the 405 fwy commuting to work, the LR arms are the best option out there. for a guy that will take his truck offroad and test the limits of his OEM TRD suspension or aftermarket coilovers, then yes, uniballs are the best bet.

i think were on the same page here, just have a slight misunderstanding on the application. for those mall crawlers (like me, still running my passenger 245s!) LRs would be just fine. for people like you who take your truck offroad all the time and use winch bumpers, you need uniballs...lets all be friends, i was just messing w/ you in my reply, didnt mean to offend you.
