I had a rock inside the coil before that made a hell of a racket and was hard to see

I am having the same problem. It sounds like a rattle/rubbing against something. I already checked but cannot find anything. I have Toytec coils though

it sounds almost like the washer on the upper coil over is loose.

Mine was where it connects/screws to the tie rod end (if that is what it is called)?
It just wasn't tight enough and would rattle all the time.

Just remove the sway bar and see. It took me less than 20 minutes to remove mine.

if that's not it..is your suspension a NEW installation recently? I noticed over the past two weeks that mine has become quieter and quieter. Someone else mentioned after a couple months, a majority of the complaints about noise has resolved itself.

    last thing from me:
this is an issue in my case, maybe not yours but..I got 886 coils but don't have a winch or rock sliders yet...so my front suspension feels like it tops out after going up a rock or bump. could you maybe have too stiff suspension for your purpose at the moment?

Ill give it a shot today, and yes it only has about 3-4,000 miles on it. I've heard that they make noise and eventually get quieter but this seems to be a different sound.

and I know its not from topping out, I flex that truck out every chance i get. I have the 885 coils and those are what is recommended by everybody for a double cab 4x4. And it isn't stiff by any means I think it rides 10x's better than before the lift but it also had a daystar leveling kit on it which made it worse than factory so it was easy to notice an improvement.

the loose sway bar makes sense. i will give an update later this afternoon to see if thats the case.

Rims and tires, cold air intake , nice stereo.
I have the same problem on my 01 dbl cab. I have the ebiach coils and bilstien 5100's.

The rattling is coming from the top washer. Take your jack and jack up the tire by the lower control arm and you should notice the washer on the top of the rod coming out of your shock has plenty of wiggle room. If you move the jack to the frame and lift the truck up notice the rubber under the washer gets really compressed and the washer no longer wiggles.

I haven't yet figured out what is causing this but I think the shock is to short for my spring. When the tire is fully dropped the spring causes the shock to pull down to hard on the rubber bushing just under the washer. The bushing is getting worn out and leaving space between the washer and the nut causing your loose rattling noise.

Mine was so bad I didint have to jack up the tire by the LCA to wiggle the washer. I took mine back apart last weekend and noticed the rubber bushing was ripped and torn apart on both sides. For now I just replaced the bushings but I'm sure they will wear out again.

Let me know what you come up with. I know when my truck was rattling it drove me nuts.

I bet its the dust guard on the strut. I put mine all together and before i installed it i noticed that the dust guard at the top of the shock floats up and down with a washer. I took it off and put the old shock bushings on either side of the shock stud and it keeps it in place with out it rattling around. It would have drove me crazy.

yeah this weekend i spent taking everything apart for the 3rd time to see if i could figure anything out and i still have the rattle. i did realize that my coils were assembled wrong and got that taken care of but am still having the problem. my ome lift has about 3,000-4,000 miles on it. i know its not the sway bar because i just left it off this time. i was tempted to leave the shock boot off just too mark that off the list of possibilities. its just aggravating to listen too. i know the tacoma has all sorts of rattles anyways but the fact that a $1200 suspension rattles like its about to fall off is kind of discouraging. I have a buddy that works at the chevy dealership in town that I've talk so my next thing is to let him take a look.

I've got the same coils and 9000 shocks, sway bar on, no noises like you are describing.

Do you got a go pro? It's very helpful to record your suspension and see what is going on under there.

at first i thought it was the top washer cause i could move it around but since I've reassembled i can't. the bushing is compressed even at full flex. I've changed all the bushing with the factory but they were torn apart pretty bad.
