you could try jumping it with a wire its probably just a fuse, but then again if its not a fuse it could mess something up

yeah if its a resistor you should be able to go to any local electrical supplier and get a 500 which should work

    Update:
It's an 51 ohm resistor. Had an engineering buddy here at work set me up. He de-soldered the 510 next to it and ohm'd it out.
He then soldered a 51 ohm thru hole resistor in it place and it works like a champ. I am sooooo pumped.

So these are two 51ohm resistors in parallel. The reason they do this is because they are running a fair amount of current through them. Most likely rated at 1/4watt in a 2512 package. This means they can drop 1/2 watt across them. I think they are there as a sense for a current source for the VFD display. My truck seems to have a newer version of this. I was having a problem where the outside temp would "stick" where it wouldn't change temperature. So, I opened mine up and instead of the standard 2512 that you guys have. Mine had much thicker 2512 sized resistors. I'm assuming that they realized at some point that the resistors couldn't handle the current. this explains the breakage in the solder joints. So, they replaced them with higher wattage resistors same with the 3 180ohm resistors next to them. If anyone would care I could recommend some better resistors from digikey to replace them with. I simply went through and resoldered everything to get fix my issue.

Could it be that the resistor is heating up enough to melt what little solder is holding them to the board? or do the resistors get that hot? Just wondering why it only happens to the 510`s.

My display went out this past weekend. I was about to start a thread asking for help, but then remember how bitchy Rich gets when people don't search first before posting.....and I found this thread. I am at work, and I am the electrical manager. We solder things on the doors of our electrical control panels that we design and build. I am about to go grab the display from the truck. I'll snap some pics too of what I find.

    Rich, good thread......for once.

Have the same problem, it would work off and on and now is DEAD! I'm gonna take a look at this. Seems like it is something Toyota needs to address this. I have called Toyota two times on this issue and talked with the dealership. The dealership seemed aware of the situation. It's great to hear about the fix! Gonna go look at it now!

If you ask me its about time for Toyota to step up to the plate and do a recall on this product. A peice of junk is what it is... I called Toyota USA about it and they were not real helpful. Told me to buy a new one through the dealership. I asked them how long it would last and she said she couldn't guarantee it past a year. I said "no thanks" with frustration probably in my voice. Happy camper now! :D Thanks again! No thanks to Toyota! :(
