so these are some picture of a bed rack I have been working on, this is actual my second revision, and I have a thread for this project here:http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/343441-custom-bed-rack-build.html

there are some mitering issues I'm having with inventor so may notice some areas that aren't properly joined

Total weight of the rack if made out of 6061 Aluminum is supposedly 80lbs

Total weigh if made from mild steel is supposedly 220lbs

These are a view of the mounting plates for the bed

this is a shot of where the tire/gas can holder would go

Looks sweet. I'm assuming the side with the gas cans and tire would be closest to the cab, right?

Edit: Duh. Didn't notice you have it closed off on that end lol.

yeah thats correct, and the cans are put opposite of the side with the actual gas tank to try and even out the weight distribution

Looks good. A couple things, cost of AL is a lot more than steel, and if you are going to have it fabricated shops generally ask for more money when working on AL. If you do it yourself, or at UAA you might be able to weld it for free. No tube bender at UAA though. Also make sure to have locks for your gas and tire. Would you ditch the tire under the bed then?

Yeah aluminum is a bit more costly for sure, yeah I would lock up my gas and tire as well. I might just buy my own tube bender, they arent to expensive and im not working with super large tube l, only 1in OD with .133 in walls. I was actually gonna keep the one under the bed and have another on the rack.

Personally I'm not familiar with bending metals but I think aluminum is a prone to cracking. Just something to double check.

Seems like overkill on mounting points on that thing

Well taking a gander on the inter webs, I found a metal distributor who could give me all of my tubing that I needed for $340 plus $91 shipping to Alaska, which was actually cheaper than the steel tube

With the weight of all the tubing, a full sized tire or two, 20 gallons of gas, and an RTT you don't want all that pressure resting on just the bed rails. I know I've seen a couple threads where a bedrack and RTT caused the bedsides to start cracking and splitting.

BTW, did ya see the Vikings kicked the Falcons ass today?! :D:D

Hmmm. Good point with the weight

I've been on the fence about the vikings and AP... haven't been watching. I grew up in a southern family. I got it way worse. I did get an update from the vikings app about the win

    Too many to list now.

Personally I'd ditch the jerries in favor of rotopax, and imo those feet are too small to distribute the weight on our compsite beds. I did something similar with mine and the feet are fairly large. Never had a complaint. If the feet were bigger I think you'd be fine with just four corners as well. The middle ones are inset pretty far with the wheel wells.

Ive honestly never used rotopax cans and the 4 gallon jugs are over $100 where I have looked, can't really justify that price personally, especially when I can get jerry cans at $40 to $50 each. What makes you prefer rotopax over other can styles? I will take the wider feet into consideration as well.
