    Chris,
Some advice from an old dude:
Don't take this shit so personal... They know how to spin you up like a top. Just pushing your buttons man and the faster you spin the more they will continue to push. I'll admit, I've taken part in some of that and I apologize. Clearly, you're done.
You want to build a turbo'd 1st gen taco? Great! Be different, be unique but don't let the opinions of others diminish your dream. Do your thing man.

To the rest of you: This thread should be an inviting atmosphere for locals to ask those "newb" questions and we help each other out; all the bashing lately would encourage any new guy to shy away from asking anything. An occasional ribbing on someone is always a good time, until they take it personal (I feel we are there with Chris). Know when to "Knock it off".

Old dude voice of reason "OUT".

A little late to the show, I see I've been missing so much while away ;)

Chris, don't take this the wrong way as it looks you're already a little upset... I'm no guru, but I've done a few custom turbo setups back in the day and written a few research papers as college projects on forced induction power increases on internal combustion engines and the differences on efficiency.

While I agree in very basic and laymen's terms that turbo is the most efficient, that doesn't equate into reliable and you seem a little misguided just based on some of your comments, but that could be frustration.

If you care to read and listen, I'll explain. Otherwise I'll just let it go. ;)

Alway interested in discussing. PM me
Sorry guys; its more upsetting that this group is getting clicky than the critiques. I can handle criticism, jibes, and button pushing; its not going to affect my decisions. But to be like "you dont wheel so you're wrong" is retarded. Ive been around here for a few years and for the most part its been a great group of guys; if you want to be ass hats and trolls, please join the 757 facebook club.

Thank Brent and again, Im sorry Im getting bent on this. I need a good vacation and looking forward to this weekend.

This is good info for anyone that might not know the functional details.

A turbo does indeed raise engine bay temperatures more than a supercharger. Remember, the compressor part functions nearly the same, but you also have the exhaust side on a turbo. It's not the ambient exhaust temp flowing through the turbine side that raises the heat it's self. The exhaust is forced through a diverter nozzle aimed at the turbine blades. The diverter nozzle is tapered, causing an increase in heat. There is then friction taking place at the turbine blade tips, causing a further increases in heat. Turbine housings will sometimes get so hot they glow red and can reach temps approaching 1000 degrees F in some instances.

A supercharger does not have the exhaust side obviously. It creates constant drag on the crank shaft, though in newer designed applications especially centrifugal it's pretty low drag at lower RPMs. The talk of crankshaft drag i think is where you get confused. Superchargers work a little better at lower RPMs, especially since they don't have lag issues, but for top end a turbo will always surpass a supercharger because it will continuously try to spool faster unless you regulate the exhaust flow into it. I think it's this talk that has you confused.

In here, most of the guys are interested, and dedicated to wheeling, so it seems. A turbo is not, and never was more reliable than a supercharger. More efficient in building power ? Yes, there are setups that have allowed up to 14.7hp per cubic inch, that is NOT reliability. There are too many components to the system. When you're offroad, possibly tens to hundreds of miles from anybody, what do you want ? Common sense tells most people to hell with peak HP, I want to know I'm getting there and back.

I tried to keep the science to a minimum so any newb can understand. Any questions ?

One more thing I forgot to add... For turbo setups, due to the turbine, as well as plumbing all around the motor for the exhaust and the intake, engine bay temps are raised substantially compared to an NA motor. Overheating is a real possibility if you don't do testing and upgrade the cooling system to handle it.

Unless you're running a snorkel you suck up those elevated enginebay temps, especially in an offroad truck that isn't moving very fast, another downfall for the turbo in a 4x4. For a street truck it's not as critical but still a concern. Remember, to have any noticeable effect on power, intake temps usually need to be approx. 30 degrees cooler than ambient temps above about 75 degrees. Furthermore, it takes about 3 times longer to cool an intercooler down than it does to heat it, this is why heat soak is a big concern with street cars and trucks. So imagine taking all this into account with a truck you're going to take offroad, nevermind the buildup of dirt and mud, further insulating and raising temps..... Ok, i'm really done explaining this time.

Ha! Mental note to get another spotter...

Hey, bad news, may not get the shocks done today. The current ones are about 1/4 - 1/2" too short... Should I be concerned? Might just stick with the easy trails... Shit.

Chris, I caught the same shit when I got the crawlbox installed. " why you going to put a crawlbox in an auto" " you don't need that shit" " you dont even wheel bro" "all you do is collect parts" and the famous " have fun braking all those cvs"

Honestly I don't give a shit what you all think except for a small hand full who I call for advice because they are more experienced than myself in the off roading world.

Build your shit the way you want. If people like it great. If people don't great.

Build your shit. Who cares what people say including
