Changed my oil (again, no oil spilled changing the oil filter:D) and started touching up the paint on skids and sliders prepping for winter.

Loosen the filter until it can be unscrewed with your hand then put a gallon ziplock bag around it.

The wheel covers died a year or so ago so I wanted to do something to the rims to improve the looks somewhat. Plastidip here I come.

Had a guy make me a skid. My 16 year old son thought a camo pattern would be fun.

Be interested in seeing if you pull it from the top, out the wheel well, or down under. I swear on all that is Holy I could not pull that sucker out the wheel well or down below. Had to go through the top. Sucked. I hope mine now lasts forever, as I may just set it on fire if I have to change that PITA again.

Cheater! :p Great idea. But, one does get addicted to hot, slimy oil running down your arm. Not as bad in my Taco thanks to reaching in through the wheel well, but on my Camry - ugh.

Not very encouraging to hear given I need to pull the tranny and replace the clutch sometime soon and I think the starter is bolted onto the bell housing...

Unbolting the starter is no sweat, and once the damn thing is in the area putting it back is fairly painless as well. You can leave it in the area when you do the other stuff, just tuck it out of the way. But the "head" of the thing, where you bolt, is wide enough to be a bitch to get totally out and back in. And the OEM/factory starter is big and heavy, so you get pissed quick futzing with it one handed trying to get it moving around in there.

If you go from the top, your front diff breather extension is snapped into place a bit in the way, as are the brake line coils coming off the master cylinder. And to the engine side you have some fuel lines that are smack in the way. But those are soft and give you flex, so you can get around them. There is an evil genius plastic hose clamp on those fuel lines that I tried to get undone one handed reaching down in there but failed. I was able to really push it getting the new one in around it, but I was sweating fubaring up those lines. Worked out in the end, but took me a few days as I had to walk away a few times to think.

Some folks here swear they got theirs out the well no problem, or even under. Not me. I have a thread on it here with pics.

I spent five hours trying to get it out and see f-it. Had it towed, mechanic got it out in 10 minutes!
