I'm sure anyone that has tried to buy .22 ammo has experienced this but what is the real reason why it is so hard to come by? I've got plenty of it stockpiled but I never used to worry about it until recently. Now.... I buy it whenever I see a box of it sitting around. So.... WTH?

I personally think it's because of wanna-be survivalist that think a 22 is the greatest tool since the discovery of fire. Idk for sure probably just people doing the exact same thing your doing because they never see it and idiots will pay 50$ a box. Same thing happened to AR-15's, 5.56 ammo, and even the hit children's toy zhu zhu pets. If people will pay drastic amounts over value then everybody will try to make a fortune off of something so small. Of course this is all my opinion. If anyone has facts post them up ! :D

Yeah... I don't disagree with that. But when I can buy 5.56 ammo for my AR cheaper than I can my .22 something is going on that I don't understand. Granted I've seen more people killed with .22 ammo than most any other type of ammo (considering the profession I'm in) it still doesn't make much sense to me. I remember being able to buy bricks of .22 ammo like it was pellets for a pellet gun. Now... fucking Christ... who's dick do you have to suck?

It is odd. I dont have a useable .22 right now but it seems like every time I'm in the ammo section at Walmart (or anywhere really) I hear a customer ask for .22 only to be told they don't have any.

Just today. Look at the price here. I'm limited to 2 boxes a day.

Lets be honest unless there's a rule where employees cant buy the ammo or are limited to 3 boxes a day like a us they're buying it before it hits the shelves. Or they keep "Forgetting" to put it out until they bought it all Lol

I know lots of people own a .22 replica of their AR-15 or 1911 or whatever it may be and use the .22 for target practice as it's much cheaper to shoot then say .45 or 7.62. And they are fun to learn on so beginners are using them as well. I now buy my max which is 3 boxes and usually only on Friday before they sell out. I still get my 100 round box of CCI for $7.50. Most stores now have a specific selling day and time and sell out quick.

It feels like were getting the wave of panic you guys had a year or so ago now.

Last time we went to pick up some .22, 12 gauge shells and some .30-06 and there was 0 .22 and 12 gauge at the 5 stores we went too and only one box of .30-06 :(

Take into consideration the many ammunition factories that shut down due to EPA laws restricting/regulating the use of lead.

Apparently most lead came from secondary sources before the shut down.

Gun owners are stockpiling .22. Fact. Even with ramped production from manufacturers box stores can not keep up with demand as it is the cheapest ammo to shoot and plink.
Honestly has little to nothing to do with the EPA regs.

Personally, even with my collection of larger caliber handguns, I would find it far more entertaining shooting an intruder/ 10-15 times with a .22 than once with a .45

I've personally seen more people killed with .22 ammo in 21 years than any other type of ammo out there.

More of sarcasm than anything...It does have the characteristic of randomly tumbling through the human body more so than the larger calibers. Although, I still will take a well placed shot of .45 all day than venting an attacker with a few .22's :).

It's time for laser and plasma guns already. We need to catch up to the future portrayed in movies, man.

Odd, I walked into a local store here and not only did they have a lot of .22, no limit. Has to be regional.

I remember when the 550 round boxes of federal .22 ammo was $14.something just a year or so ago. I've got a bunch stockpiled but it'll run out eventually. Oh well, I like my shotguns more anyway :D

I agree with protecting yourself with a larger caliber weapon. But I would hate to be shot with a 22. We made a rescue many years ago on a drive by with a guy that got shot twice in the hip. One of the bullets hit a bone and entered into his abdomen and he bled out before we could get him loaded into the ambulance.

I have no trouble getting .22 ammo. I can go to my local sporting goods store and buy as much as I like. He always has plenty.
