They are like bearings, they go bad.

If you open it up, there are rods that act as bearings insted of balls.

You know how a u-joint looks like a plus sign? On each end, there are caps. If you pull the caps off, it all depends how shot the joints are, metal pins that act as bearings, may fall out, signifying really bad u-joints. May

I do not recommend taking them apart if you plan on putting them back. It is a pain in the ass to try to put those roller pins back in. If the driveshaft has play when you turn it by hand, the u-joints are bad.

We replaced some on a truck with 140k, another with about 100k......it all depends, some sooner, some later.

Does the truck clunk/jerk any at all when it shifts gears? This is usually a sign of bad u-joints

No need for a new shaft. Shafts are usually replaced when a truck/car gets mad torque gains. Torque is what kills a driveshaft. Some buy custom single piece shafts for lifted trucks. Nothing that our little 3in lifts need.

    This might help.

I have 3° shims under my leafs and I also have the carrier bearing drop on my shaft.
The shims pivot the axle so when you give it gas, it doesn't pivot further up.

You might want to brop your CB, as a precaution...don't wamt that to go bad on you next.
You are already replacing the joints, so you should be good for now. Just up keep it.

Were you going to modify those extra long axle pins? If you were, don't because you will need that extra length for your shims.

I just know that MOOG is a reputable brand, most u-joints aren't going to cost to terribly much. I got the extra strength ones on my because when I installed my lunch-box locker in the rear it added more stress to the u-joints. Also they're greasable which is always a good thing. This is a great post, http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/su...me-kit-rear-brake-lines-pics.html#post2224677, and the part at the beginning will help you determine what you might need once you lift your truck. I'm open most evenings during the week, we could knock it out in a couple of hours, I'm booked up for the next 2 weekends though.

You don't really need it. The angles you have are fine

You may end up not needing anything. I don't have a huge amount of lift in the rear and I've never had any bad vibes.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
    Tell them Dakars or GTFO.

What happens if you already swapped your leafs out with something better?
