The holes are slotted horizontally to make installation easier.

I would definitely not recommend using a thinner gasket. It's engineered to work with the gasket that I supply. A thinner gasket would result in a sloppy fit and reduced strength.

As I've said before, the cap doesn't stick out past the back of the tailgate far at all. Once you see it in person, you'll realize that it is not an issue at all.

OK , so I finally got a chance to install my tailgate cap today , if anyone is on the fence about this product jump off it and order yourself one , the fit and finish are outstanding and the result is a tailgate that both feels more solid and sounds solid when closing rather than sounding like a tin can . Another bonus is the elimination of the annoying click click everytime I opened my tailgate due to the broken clips in my stock cap ( removal showed 4 were broken ) .

    Stock tailgate cap

Stock tailgate cap with my Leer 100RCC door closed

Removal of the stock tailgate cap confirmed that after over 4 years with my Leer on , I had no issues with the tailgate getting rubbed to raw metal as many seem to be concerned about

KB Voodoo tailgate cap installed :

This took me two tries because when I originally installed the foam tape to the vertical part of the tailgate it showed below the tailgate cap even though I approximated it's height by the pictures in the OP , however , no big deal , I carefully peeled it back off and re-seated it with the top of the tape flush to where the tailgate's vertical plane and top meet at the bend

Upon first attempt , my Leer door would not close all the way

I loosened my Leer installation bolts and moved it back about 3/16"

This step may or may not be necessary depending on how your cap was installed or the type of cap you have but I found that at least with my Leer 100RCC , sighting down the top edge of the KB Voodoo tailgate cap , you want it to align with the interior edge of the door stop on the Leer

    and perfect fit

Thanks for an awesome product Chad !

Glad to see this functioning with a cap, KB, what is the possibility of extending this down on the inside to replace the ribbed back section on the tailgate with a smooth piece? Sick of cooking on that bumpy stuff.

Thanks OZ!! I guess that puts all the questions about fitment with a topper to bed.

At the moment, I'm just concentrating on the caps and my bed brackets.

Installed mine this weekend, fit was perfect. I didn't mind the gap at all, its very small, pictures seem to make it bigger. Goes perfect with my tonneau cover. I like the weight it gives the tailgate. My only complain would be the powder coating, although it looks great, at least in mine it appears it didn't bonded to well to the metal, I will probably remove it and spray it with bedliner eventually.

Oz, Thank you so much for the above.

I also installed mine over the weekend, and have the foam tape showing below the cap. I thought I would wait a few days until the foam collapses a little, and then try to push the cap lower to hide the exposed foam. But I may have to take off the cap and try moving the foam higher before reinstallation.

My mailman must have really hated me. The cap was well wrapped with bubble wrap, but after USPS got done with it, it was ripped open and several scratches were on the cap.

Not sure what to do with the scratches, but I will probably keep an eye on rust and either paint or plastic dip the cap if needed.

Sucks that happened. I'm changing up the packaging to make it even more bulletproof.

Sounds like this thing is a must have. When will you be developing a full set of bed rail caps? I lifted up my topper the other day and noticed a dent in one of mine where the cap is secured.:(

These are double walled boxes, so they'll be like Fort Knox.

Yea, I wished I had waited for you to get the boxes before ordering, but you probably would not have considered boxes until my post above with the USPS scratches.

    Hey OP, nice product!

I was thinking about this last night and thought it could be upgraded with a couple LED strips. I would make it a little larger so the overhang is a half inch on either side of the gate. This would allow for an LED strip fitment underneath the rim, to provide both light in the bed and light on the ground when the gate is open. Would come in handy with some hunters I know, always dropping shells or knives on the ground after sun down when packing things up. Just food for thoughts.

Nice looking tailgate cap! I broke a few clips this weekend getting firewood, so this may be in the future for my truck.

Looks like a solid product, and hey if OZ approves of it, it must be good!
