Yeah the marine recruiter still calls me to go with them but everyone tells me you get treated "better" in the Air Force.lol But if I don't manage to lose the seven pounds to be under the weight requirement, I'll go to the marines. I'm perfect as far as weight and scores go.

Im not sure about treated better but I am sure that they live more comfortably. The Marines is very stringent on Height and Weight standards. Good luck on whatever you choose to do.

your making a big choice for the next 8 years of your life at least so dont base your choice on where to go just on weight standards. really think about this. if you want the AF then drop the 7 pounds and sign the paper. if you want the marines then sign up. either way your taking a huge step in just deciding to volunteer to serve your counrty (which so few people do) and thats bad ass. good luck w/ however it works out

Do yourself a huge favor and make the life style choices to keep it off. Nothing denies you brownie points and favorable action like staying on the unit overweight program.

One of my soldiers has had repeated problems with not meeting body fat standards. She'll fail her tape test, get flagged, lose the weight and lose the inches, pass tape, flag is lifted. 6 months later we do it all over again. Right now she's at an NCO Academy school, the results of which stay with you your entire career. She taped under before we sent her but she put weight on and taped 1% over when she got there. She has to lose 2% body fat in 2 weeks at a school where all you do is sit in class and eat 3 times a day. If she fails tape again it goes on her academic schools record as failing to meet basic Army standards and stays with her her entire career. If she can't meet body fat standards by January and gets flagged she'll lose her slot at the Army enlisted nursing program, that she reenlisted for, because she won't be eligible for favorable action.

We've gotten her a diet plan, we do PT, she's been on and off the unit overweight program, we just can't control what she does when she's not at work. She's had 3 kids and obviously has trouble meeting standards but refuses to make the lifestyle changes to maintain passing BMI.

Oh dang that sucks for her. :( I think I'll be able to keep it off and lose more. I was liked double my size two years ago.

One of my crew members had 15 years in the Air Force and was booted out for not maintaining weight standards. This was a few years ago, but he was not able to collect a military pension, or get a medical discharge. He ended up working for a 7-11 the last I knew. Maintaining weight is still a biggie in the military. Even the national guard, which my daughter belongs to maintains Army weight and PT standards, so do your best to keep well under weight standards. Congratulations on making a wise choice in both your future health and military service. Best of luck to you. GO AIR FORCE!

^ whats sad is, it's not even that hard to maintain weight that the military wants you at. hell, they make you work out, just watch what you eat and work out a little bit on your own and your set. sucks for your buddy who was 15 in...
