However my truck is not included in the recall. This may be because I've already qualified for the frame replacement recall and they replace the rear leaf pack when they change the frame.

I love how Toyota is trying to keep the illusion that the '05-'11 are different from the '12-'15 trucks going...

...and apparently how 2011 is different from the late 2011s for some reason

fair enough, but your comment 'it's just replacing leaf packs don't know why they have to be 'preparing remedy' ' shows a misunderstanding of what is involved in a recall, when just a little time on these forums gives all the answers

engineers need to come up with a fix
NHTSA needs to test and approve the fix
the fix needs to be made available to people 'just pulling into a dealership'

there is a ton of work involved in any recall. and it might not be 'replacing leaf springs' it could involve a hundred different things or one different thing. maybe just leafs, maybe gas tank protection and leafs, maybe coating existing leafs with anti-corrosion...maybe redesign of something seemingly unrelated....or a combo of all...who knows ? only toyota engineering and NHTSA knows...

sorry if my dig rustled yer jimmies

After thinking about it I mispoke above. The Ford gasket issue was not actually a safety recall. The head gasket problem was almost universal on every vehicle with certain engines. So after enough public pressure they decided to extend the warranty coverage to 100K or something only for that particular defect. And you could get reimbursent if you could prove you paid to fix it already.

My truck is also a later 2011 model and it does not qualify for the recall for whatever reason. I'm not sure on the mfg date at the moment but I bought it new towards the end of 2011.

In their minds your truck is too new to have the leaf springs degrade/rust to the point of failure.

my springs are flat as a pancake...and included in the recall.

Was about to purchase aftermarket leafs but looks like now I'll wait.

If the remedy is short of new leafs I'll probably still replace them.

Solution = twist some wire hanger around the pack so it doesn't fly around when it breaks

    Cost = $.05 per vehicle

Just checked my 2009. It's included in the recall. I'd love some new springs! Although I'm guessing they go with a clamp or some other type of restraint system.

11 pages to the thread. His post was on page 1 and the OP answered on page 2. At the time he posted, it was not "all over the news." The OP was giving us a heads up.

    EDIT: ^^^^

There's a link in this thread where you can enter your VIN see if you're eligible. If you are, you should be sent a letter when the remedy is determined and available. Some have called in and after a lengthy wait, been added to a list and gotten a case number.

Those are the cliff notes; or you could read the thread.
