Toyota is recalling 690,000 Tacoma pickup trucks in the US because of a potential vulnerability in the vehicles' suspension systems.

    Mod's, make this a sticky?

The penalties are said to be criminal, yet nobody goes to jail?

I guess criminal means that somebody says that what you did was "shameful" and you are supposed to feel embarrassed, and your company pays a tax?

Yeah. I've never owned a vehicle with so many god damn recalls. Why this thing has such a high resale value I have no idea.

Better to admit it and fix it than to know about it and ignore it for over a decade until a dozen or so deaths.

I can't figure it out either,, with the rust issue, weak engine, suspension issues, (hell you can barley tow fishing boat) I can't believe they sell so well, I think it is just their reputation, at one time the Tacoma was "Bullet proof" I know that is why I purchased mine, I didn't do my research, Overall I do like the truck, but Had I done any reading I would not have purchased. I think once the word get out the resale value will plummet. jmop

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
There are 3 for my truck in 8 years.
    1 Floor mats
    2 Frame
    3 Now suspension.

3 is not a big number..
Compare that to other vehicles and its actually very low number.
Plus you do 3 recalls and you keep driving that thing.
2nd Gen so far has been very good for me.
I f I remember correctly There were 3 recalls for my my 1Gen truck too. Amazingly almost the same recalls minus the floor mat.
my 1Gen broke its stock leafs, and finally got scraped because the frame.

And Ford just recalled 850k for airbag issues. It's not just Toyotas getting 'lots' of recalls. And I'd rather have them issue a recall than ignore deaths and injuries resulting from their products.
On a note about first gen leafsprings, I regularly haul 500-1200 pounds of scrap metal in the bed of my 96, and my leafsprings are still very much whole. And before I have someone tell me I shouldn't be putting that much weight in my truck, let me say this: when you're part of a big family that is constantly struggling, you do what you have to do to pay the bills. For me, hauling scrap metal is one of those things.

    Well said.
